Advertising on Craigslist as Dog Walker?

Advertising on Craigslist as Dog Walker?

    Bad idea?

I want to be a dog walker, and I did a test post on craigslist to see if I'd get any response. I did get two, but both responses were a bit strange. I haven't replied yet and am not sure I should. I have a book by Nicole Wilde where she says never take any job if it doesn't feel right. I'm a bit weary of craiglist myself... but it's an easy way to find people. But maybe not worth it...

There are some scary and dangerous people out there, as you know.  I would suggest that you take a friend with you to make initial contact.  If anything makes either of you nervous, make an excuse and LEAVE.  I would think your best bet would be trying to find people you already know to start and then hopefully the referrals will come from those people.  Good luck.

Thanks JackieG. I'm actually a guy so I am not worried about that. I think what I'll have to do is start up a website and try advertising that way. Or putting ads in the paper, etc. Anyone want to recommend a good book? There's loads to choose from on amazon.

You could try posting flyers on bulletin boards in vet offices, pet stores, etc...and offer a discount for the first "walk".

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the recommendations.

What do you all recommend charging? And is there a site where it tells you what each region or state in the USA is charging? I asked "per hour" when I should have said "per half hour." I said $13 for regular walk and $16 for loose leash training with walk.
