Is this a bit much?? (Joyce)

OK - this was on the Comcast home page this a.m.  Apparently that adorable little 9 year old girl who sang at the Olympics was really lip syncing to the voice of a 7 year old girl ... who they didn't think was good looking enough to appear on stage. They put the cutest face with the best voice.  Now who would want to make a 7 year old think they weren't cute enough to be seen at the Olympics??  Isn't that carrying the "striving for perfection" a little too far?

definately too much! but not surprising...

see the chinese guy who won a silver medal (forgot what sport) and bawled is eyes out, cause he wanted gold? DUDE!!

it's a chinese thing... (although you see it elsewhere as well, of course...)

Oh man, I hadn't heard that, but that is definitely a bit much. What 7 year old ISN"T cute or pretty?  What was the message to the one who sang? You're not very talented but you're real pretty, so we'll use you and you'll pretend like you're singing? Yuck, that's just sad.

I've seen quite a few Americans who looked completely deflated when they won silver or bronze. Granted, I've never gone thru what they have to get this far, but I sure hope I'd be happy just to have a spot on that medal stand.

see, i can see someone having higher expectations. plus a lot of it has to do with realizing you COULD have done better. disapointment i can somehow understand in some cases... but for a guy to cry like that (not just once but in like 3 seperate interviews after the fact AND when he was receiving the medal!!) come on!

now that colombian guy in weightlifting yesterday, whose hand kept slipping, yeah i definately understood why he cried like a baby. oh well...

Geesh, what a terrible thing to do to a little girl. That's downright shameful. It's no wonder women grow up with awful self-images. Sad

I haven't watched the Olympics AT ALL so far and I do not plan to, so I didn't see this but I have heard about it on the news.  Disgusting.  A slap in the face for two little girls.  China (sorry jm) I AM NOT IMPRESSED! Sad

Wow, Chuffy, I thought that DH & I were the only people on the planet who weren't watching the Olympics.  I'm completely disgusted with the whole Olympic scene.  Now as far as those 2 girls go.  wow, just wow.

    Yeah, like Hollywood!

We're not watching them either.  Blech.

I totally believe that it had something to do with looks, but I also heard that the 7 y/o is shy and doesn't perform in front of large crowds very well, which makes sense. They should've just let the 9 y/o sing though, who cares if it's perfect?

Er, no it DOESN'T.  Doesn't perform in front of large crowds very well but applies (or maybe Mum and Dad apply for her) to sing for the Olympics.  Hmmm, maybe I'm thick but I don't see the sense in that.

There's a pic of the 7 yr. old in an article on the Comcast home page and she's a cute little punkin.  Smile I hardly think she would have been an embarrassment to her country. The video also said the Chinese government has pulled all references to it off all of their websites and think the West is just making too much of an issue over nothing.

I think it's an appalling message to send to two little girls.... how can the future of your country be considered a "nothing"?

I value my child.  I think each country should value their children too.

I read about this the other day, and I'm glad others are just as awestruck as I am. It's aweful. If the girl who wasn't deemed pretty enough to be in front of everyone is good enough to sing for billions of people to hear, she is good enough to be on that stage. She's 7 years old! What kind of person dismisses a 7 year old girl because of how she looks?
