I've got a whole article on arthritis stuff if you want to email me. (It's an attachment, so email me rather than PM me so I can reply to it.)
Probably the *best* thing I do is acupuncture. But finding a *good* acupuncturist is the key to that. Also, Knox Nutra Joint is the first thing I reach for LONG TERM.
It's not a pain med -- but over the course of several months (like 2-3 months) it will help the body re-build cartilage that has been lost so it's a far more lasting help.
Glucosamine/chondroitin -- they're only 'Hydrators' -- meaning they plump up connective tissue that is still there but if that's worn away they help less and if you stop taking it, it stops.
Bosweila -- I'm more prone to use that topically than internally. *Not* that it's bad, just that it's how I've done it.
Taking a relaxant (like valerian root, passion flower, St. John's wort) with *any* sort of nsaid will help a smaller amount of that nsaid do more good (because then the nsaid works on the joint in a relaxed state with less resistance so it helps more).
Topicals -- like the essential oil blends - for ME are a lifesaver. That way rather than waking stiff and sore, it gives the anti-inflammatory oil a chance to actually HELP overnight. I like the blends of White Flower Oil and Wood Lock particularly -- but just plain peppermint or wintergreen essential oils are awesome.
The list I'll send you has more herbs -- but you DO have to be careful of side effects. There are a lot that help but you have to educate yourself a bit on them.
There ARE homeopathic remedies that I can teach you about as well if you want. If you have a Whole Foods near you Traumeel (either the cream or the pellets) can truly help some of that inflammation.
