    Things to do in Chicago

So my parents just decided that we are driving to Chicago on Tuesday and coming home sometime next weekend. It's a 6 - 7 hour drive but I am just excited to get away and have some fun. So if anyone here has visited Chicago or lives nearby, what fun things do you suggest we do? We are already planning on going to the Shedd Aquarium, Fields Musuem (we want to see the Ghost and the Darkness lions), and I read about some huge fun house maze that sounds cool. So, thanks to any suggestions anyone can give! : )

Museum of Science and Industry. I always enjoy it more than the FieldSmile  (but the rooms of dead animals at the latter always depress me..the story of the lions is pretty nifty though. Read The Lions of Tsavo if you canSmile Much more interesting than the movie :) ) If you go tot he Museum of Science and Industry, try to go earlier in the day, as if you go too close to closing (an hour or an hour and a half) they no longer admit anyone.

    Definitely!

There are also a number of beaches.  The Sun-Times did a story on the best beaches in Chicago:  http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1079004,CST-NWS-beach29.article

Navy Pier is pretty sweet too: http://www.chicagotraveler.com/attractions/navy-pier.html

There are two zoos in the area--Lincoln Park Zoo, which is on the north side: http://www.lpzoo.org/  and Brookfield Zoo which is in the suburbs:  http://www.czs.org/czs/Brookfield/Zoo-Home

Millennium Park is always an interesting attraction too.  They also have boat tours down the Chicago River.

Now, I don't mean to be Debbie Downer but just a little warning.  If you go to the beaches there please take any warnings that are given by the life guards, etc about rip tides seriously.  They have not been as bad in Chicago this year as they have been here in northwest Indiana (about an hour from Chicago), but warnings about them do crop up every now and then and it is best to be aware of them.

Have fun though!!!  It's a beautiful city!!!!

Riding up to the skydeck in the Sears Tower is always neat too.

Since you're going to be downtown and plan on going to Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum, be sure to stop at the Adler Planetarium as well. It's also located in "Museum Campus". Stop by Grant Park at night and check out Buckingham Fountain. Saturday is fireworks night at Navy Pier.
