    Crazy cause of allergies (marlania)

    Bare with me...this is weird.

Brown, my chocolate lab, is allergic to corn.  Apparently this occurred as he got older. He didn't have this problem in his younger days. His diet, however, isn't the problem (I feed Solid Gold)...it's our cat litter! We use World's Best, which is corn, and even though it doesn't track very much, Brown will find some to lick up, which eventually causes an ear infection. I told his vet about this, and he had to laugh because it's not often a dog has an allergic reaction because of kitty litter. lol

Anyone have another litter suggestion. I love World's Best. We have 3 cats, and the litter doesn't smell or track, and I much prefer it to clay litters. Feline Pine and Yesterday's News didn't work well for us. Any ideas?

I use tidy cats, or fresh step (which ever is on sale, really) I didn't like feline pine or those types.

I use clumping, less dust. We have a little tracking mat next to the litter box that picks up the excess off their paws when they come out. covered litter boxes also help keep the little contained

There is a wheat litter called Swheat Scoop that is similar in appearance to Worlds Best, but I personally didn't like it, it would get stuck to the floor when tracked, seriously, like glue. I know people who like it though. I currently use Cat Attract, but I don't know what the ingredients are.

I wasn't crazy about Sweat Scoop in the litterbox, but love it for the rabbit cage.  For the cat's litterbox I use Tidy Cat Small Spaces.

It may not be feasible with 3 cats since I only have one but I use the Scoop Free litter box and litter (the actual litter is the cystal type, virtually no tracking - Harley just gets a little energetic sometimes with covering up and sends it flying).  Once a month I change the cartridge and am done.  Its a little expensive but worth it to me since no one at my house wants to clean the litter box.

Though I'm not sure what it's made of, my best friend finally found something her kitty could use without tracking it all over the house.  It's a Disney product and for the life of me I can't find it online to tell you the name of it but it's something along hte lines of World's Best and Feline Pine.  I believe she buys it at Walmart.

I'm going to have to find a way to keep Brown away from anywhere the litter is tracked. Worlds Best has really worked for us even though it's super expensive (but it does last longer).

I did wonder about Swheat Scoop...not too sure I like the whole glue thing. lol Thanks for sharing.

I had a friend that put her litter box in a closet, and installed a cat door in the closet door. This gave the cat free acess to the box, but kept the dog out. I think she may have kept the food in there too, not sure about that one though.

It's the absolute truth - liquid sinks to the bottom of the litter box and turns into cement.  I've known someone who reporting breaking a slotted metal scoop on it.  We went to it for a while as it was a little cheaper than World's Best, but I could not tolerate that aspect.  Makes the box ridiculously difficult to clean.  Back to World's Best because it seems to be exactly that...

Our cats litter box is in a closet.   No cat door, but the closet door is left opened enough for her to get in and out (covered litter box facing sideways keeps Caleb out).  The litter still gets tracked into the hall somewhat.  I've tried a bath mat, a piece of reptile carpet and those anti tracking mats to no avail.
