    Nightmare Worthy (Warning)

I stay away from the News as much as possible normally.  In any event they don't play much of it on Treehouse so we wouldn't see it in my house.  But I went down to go visit my parents at their laundromat today and they had it playing.  Its heartwrenching.  Have you all heard?  The poor victims family and friends must be just shocked.  And I can't imagine what the other passengers are going through.

It's been all over the news today. It is so horrible it sounds more like a Stephen King novel. The RCMP have been pretty closed lipped about the perp. Obviously a mental case. How could you ever get over witnessing something like that? Apparently there were children on the bus!

I know!  Its sick.  From what I've heard, the guy has not uttered a word since the incedent.  The judge had him nodding for a bit and then he quit even that.  But thats just what my mom said so who knows.  There were also some cannibalistic rumors...again sourced from my mom so I've no idea.

I read this the other day on the Comcast homepage and the first thing I wondered was why other passengers couldn't have subdued this guy.  It's not like he was waving an automatic weapon around.  He had a knife, for heavens sake. Granted a big one if he could decapitate and gut someone with it, but it just seems to me like he could have been jumped and stopped.

I thought the same thing when I first read it. Obviously they were thinking enough to stop the bus and to lock the guy in the bus. Granted I've never been in a situation like that but still.. Someone had to have thought about stopping him even in passing..

Well, it says he was a pretty big guy, and that after getting everyone off the bus a couple of the guys went back on to try to stop him but it was too late.  He had already decapitated the guy and came at them with the knife and the head...I'm not sure I would have been in the presence of mind to act, um...heroically?  I mean there was no warning.  Its not like he was threatening to do it for a while first.  The guy that noticed it first said he turned around to the sound of him stabbing the victim.

I guess that makes sense.  It's not like any of us get on a bus with a plan of action in mind of what we'd do if some whack job starts cutting off someone elses head. I sure wouldn't have had the presence of mind to do anything except maybe crawl under the seat.

I think the fact that they got everyone off the bus and then had the presence of mind to lock Dude in there is commendable.  I wonder how the bus driver disabled the bus?

    • Gold Top Dog

I would imagine that bus companies would have cut-off switches installed so that a driver can totally disable a vehicle to prevent hijacking or someone doing this very thing of trying to get away in the bus. It wouldn't be that hard, really. Route the ignition cable to a hidden switch. And a physical valve to cut off fuel.

I'm not normally hugely affected by this stuff, but this one turned my stomach big time.

Cognitive thinking is one of the first things out the window in a trauma situation along with motor control so the 3 guys who kept it and were able to lock the guy on the bus are a blessing.  Please say a prayer for the victim's family, their lives will never be the same.  And there is no getting over it, there's just before and after and after is a life sentence of pain.

Indifferent I don't even know what to say. I'm just shocked to hear something like that happened. My thoughts are with the people that had to go through this and for the victims family.

It does make you stop and think what you would do in a situation like that. How horrible for the victim, his family and friends. My heart goes out to them. There are so many sick, twisted people in this world......if we really knew how many it would be mind boggling!!!!!
