Nothing special that I know of - maybe it's to help us feel better about the fact that we haven't gotten raises in a while (at least 2 years). The economy has been soooo bad here in Michigan that we've tightened our belts to nearly the last notch. We're a fast-food franchisee and sales have been waaay down. I think we've had some positive increases this summer, but we are operating with minimal staff at the restaurants and here in the admin office. Everyone is doing about twice the normal workload. It hasn't helped that the minimum wage in the state went up so much in two years - from $5.15/hour to $7.40. We had to bring the hourly employees up to that level, but we salaried people are stuck until everything improves overall. I'm not complaining, though. In this state, to have a salaried job w/benefits right now is a blessing.
Besides, I live 1.25 miles from work and am biking whenever possible - so even though $100 will only fill my truck twice, it'll still go a long way.
