was today, and we had a blast!
When we first got him, I snuck him down to the beach for exposure, and he's been to the salt water lagoon a few times - not in the water of course! But he's never gotten to romp and frolic along the beach, as dogs aren't generally allowed on our beaches.
The dog grapevine clued me into a small stretch of beach that is private and dog friendly. I parked a mile away, and we walked to the private beach for a good warm up. The private beach area is down a steep cliff, so I could let him off lead without fear that he'd run into traffic or anything. He was so happy he got the zoomies, which is rare for him. He thought the waves were much fun - he would dash in and sniff the shells and rocks when they receded, and leap back when they returned. Like a kid.
He wasn't too happy when the high tide got us stuck against the boulders and he didn't notice me stop and climb some stairs. Oh, he wasn't happy with getting wet, LOL. I was afraid he was going to hurt himself as he tried to wedge between two large rocks in a futile attempt to escape. But the set of waves receded, and we raced for a wider strip of sand. Too much fun. I felt like a kid myself.
The only sad part is that on the mile back, he couldn't understand why we weren't going on the beach with all the exciting people (and seagulls!!!!). At one point he forlornly stood up and peeked over the 4 1/2 foot wall between the sidewalk and the beach.
He got a lot of smiles for that.
What a great morning!
