This is why I HATE having an outdoor dog!

Cheyanne digs in the yard when she gets hot. Our yard is shaded all day long but she will still dig. And her digging in the yard does not make JJ happy at all. We have a concrete walkway that I will spray with the water hose and that keep Cheyanne cool and not digging in the yard.

Can you get one of those cooling mats to put in his dog house or kennel? I know they make heated ones not sure about cooling ones.

    Looks like it'd work great!!

If I can find one I can probably get it for him. I don't mind the holes if only he would keep them to the back of the kennel and not towards the front.

Pavers and sand.  Cheap cheap at Walmart and can be removed and taken with you.  The pavers are about a buck a piece ($1) and from the looks of the pics, you'd probably need less than 10.  Good luck!

Grass will grow on sand right?

Uhm, probably not very well.  Do you want grass to grow?  Usually when laying down pavers, you use the sand to help level them and spread it in the space between.  If you used square pavers, you'd butt them up against each other so there's only a small space between them and then you'd sweep and pack the sand down in between, it helps keep them in place.  The sand also provides drainage and should help with your mud problem.  There was someone here who just posted pics of their dogs area and they used pavers, it turned out really nice.  I can't remember the thread title though.

Woops my brain was somewhere else......Indifferent Wasn't it adorkalbe that did that with misha's area? I really liked it. I think I will give that a shot. I will have to get a bag of sand and pavers and that should take care of the mud problem.

You need gravel under the sand to help with drainage in an area like that.  The sand stabelizes the pavers.  But the gravel alone would work.  If you could lay a good 3 inches of it down, then cover it with staw he shouldn't dig.  For some reason dogs tend not to dig through straw.  It does get trampled down though so you have to change it occasionally.

About gravel I want something that can be taken off pretty easily if we move but if I don't have any other option wether we move or don't I will still do it to stop the mud!

    Thanks everybody. Smile

Why do you need to take up the gravel if you move?  For asthetic purposes of the way you leave the property, or so you can use it wherever you move to?  If it is so you don't leave a mess....well, I'd prefer grass over the mudhole...but thats just me.  In any event, you could lay down some ground cover under the gravel, poke some holes in it so it will drain and then when you want to leave, just pull the whole ground cloth up and the gravel will come with it.  Then you could take it with you.  Otherwise, just pull up whatever is on top of the gravel, straw, sand, pavers, whatever, spread a few inches of soil over the gravel, and plant some grass seed.

Oh my that sucks. Try gravel or paver stones.

What you need, is if you have a Lowes depearment store near you,go there, and look for some concreate pads, they come in many shapes, styles, colors, you name it.

Or at least it would work for the time beaing, and you could pick them up easily.

I would like to take it if we move but if there is no other option I don't care. I will see what works. Thanks guys!
