Stand feeder (Thor)

Both Chyna & Bevo have eaten from elevated feeders all of their lives with no issues.

They both eat from feeders very similar to this.  http://www.dog.com/item/adjustable-height-double-diner/

After Bevo's neck injury, I needed a feeder that would raise higher.  I ended up going to a local motorcycle shop & having them custom make one to my specifications.

Zack has difficulties digesting food, and we were told to have him elevated, however, we don't have a stand lol we use phone books, because they have such a large water dish, it won't fit in a stand, we have been trying to find one with just one bowl, but no such luck thus far.

Maddie eats on the floor though

I like the stand you posted, calinsma!  I think it looks cute

Seems like I'll be going against the grain with what most people feel on here, but I myself prefer to feed a giant from a raised feeder.  Our Danes did wonderfully with this style of feeding, never having any issues.  Plus they tended to eat slower then our Airedales, who ate from floor level (of course Terriers tend to become like little hoovers anyways...lol).  I also feel that if one has a giant that has bloat in it's genetics, or if you are concerned with bloat ever happening, a preventative gastropexy operation may be the way to go (also called sometimes a preventative tack).  For more info about this surgery and bloat here's a good site:  http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/bloat_prevention_gastropexy_htm.htm

Getting back to raised feeders, I have found the one of my dreams...  http://whineranddiner.net/default.aspx  It's handcrafted from a recycled wine crate, and while it's a bit pricey...Stick out tongue I don't mind.. it's a piece of artwork as well as a functional feeder...Big Smile

    That's a great feeder...

Talus uses a raised feeder...We had a store bought adjustable one when he was a puppers and then, as Talus grew,  my husband went to IKEA and bought a nightstand, some foam and cut a whole in the top to make a taller feeder...

We take Talus' water away when he's eating and then put it out after...

I guess I am cheap, lol. My elevated feeder consists in a plant stand of the right height and diameter to hold their bowls. We had to add a little bit of insulation to keep the bowls from clanking and voilà... no pretty but it works and does not cost much.

LOL Bugsy's outside water bowl is on a plant stand from Walmart

WOW ... So many options and just one dog to please, mmm... I love Bugsy's feeder, DH is more inclined for the one I posted first, we will see. Thor, has used several boxes, and finally an ice chest, yes I'm cheap too Embarrassed... But here in Venezuela I haven't seen a decent stand feeder with a acceptable price, everything is imported, so you have to pay a lot for it!!

BTW I love BBLover suggestion, those feeders look great!! When Thor was a baby, his bed was a wine box...

...maybe he will get a wine box feeder!!

That is too cute of a picture!!! Gosh, Thor is such a beautiful Neo... I just love him... Animated Hearts

Getting back to the feeders, with our Danes, at the time we didn't have as many options for luxury feeders as there are now for dogs.. so we used a huge sized pail for one, and an old wrought iron table for the other.  They both fit the bowls nicely....

BTW... I love the plant stand that Thalie made... It's actually very pretty, and one wouldn't know that it's not a dog stand at first glance... Happy
