Dieting is Impossible!

Eat when you are hungry.  Stop when you are full.

If you REALLY want something - then have it, so long as you are hungry and you stop when you are full!  For the vast majority of people, denying yourself what you want WILL NOT WORK because eventually you give in and binge.

Repeat after me:  there is no need to clear my plate.  I do not need to clear my plate.  I do not need to clear my plate.

ya'll are going to hate me. I lost almost 30 lbs in a few months. Because I am having dental work done and I've had 4 teeth pulled this year, so far, I knew I better get used to some soft food. You eat soft food for a few days after an extraction to avoid getting food lodged in the sockets. Anyway, I tried a sample of Dannon's Light and Fit and really liked the taste, which was paramount to me. And then, I thought, why not try some low fat and sugar free puddings and jellos instead of the cookies and ice cream I've had every day for the last 8 or 9 years. And while I'm at it, why not cut out the fried foods. Get roasted chicken instead of fried. I've been using Brummels and Brown for a long time. It's a yogurt based spread that tastes like butter. So, instead of peanut butter and jelly for breakfast, it's B & B and sugar free jam or preserves. And I've always liked whole wheat bread for the taste. Plus, I work in construction and it's hot down here in the Lone Star State. In March, I weighed 253 lbs. I've been holding at about 225 lbs. since May. I work out, as well. Denser muscle mass burns more fat.

You can eat whatever portion satisfies, just don't eat fat. DW got us on to fat free organic milk and I swear it tastes better than the whole and 2% I used to drink. One thing I have found since cutting out a lot of fat is that my satiation levels change. I don't have to eat half a chicken and some potato salad to feel full.

My gut is gone, my love handles are gone, and my keister is non-existant. Seriously, I had to cut another hole in my belt to keep my pants up. My measurements are 6' 6" tall, 225 lbs., 38 inch waist, 44 inch chest. I guess that's okay for being 44 years old.

Letting the hating of me begin. Worst of all, I wasn't trying to lose weight, just looking for foods that I can eat while undergoing several major dental procedures.

Hint: when buying steak, anything that says loin or round is lean. My favorite cut is top sirloin and petite sirloin, but eye of round will also do. Chicken has the lowest fat. Game meat such as deer may be lower but it helps to know a hunter or a meat plant, such as Fisher's in Muenster, Tx. They make a venison and jalapeno sausage that is worth the effort of finding it.

Stick out tongue  Ron you don't count, you're a dude!  You can think about cutting calories and drop 5 lbs!  I love that yogurt also.  I use it in a great power smoothie recipe I make most mornings now with protein powder and frozen berries, it tastes really good with Kashi Go Lean Crunch and bananas mixed in too!  Yum-O!

Sorry 'bout your toofies.  I HATE dental work, it's the worst!

For quite some time, my finances have been lean. I couldn't afford regular dental care. So, now, I'm catching up. But I have learned that, no matter how often you brush and floss, you still have to get a deep perio at least once a year.

Eat when you are hungry.  Stop when you are full.

Yep, the only thing is I had to re-train myself and my body what "hungry" and "full" feels like.  When I did gymnastics I could eat nonstop because I really needed all that to burn and easily maintained a small weight and healthy body, but the amount I was eating became a habit regardless of whether I was competing.  When I cut back to 1200 cals in January, I felt like I was starving for a few weeks.  During that time I had to attend a seminar for work and the guy kept saying "it takes 21 days to make a new habit" so I kept telling myself "21 days...."  It took a little longer than that, well, I wanted to make dang sure I had broken my habit of over-eating.  It is still hard sometimes.  The meds I am on make me want to eat and eat and eat.  My mom said she had the same thing when she was my age, she actually weighed the least after she had her second child.  I ate a lot of heavy stuff that made me feel full without tons of cals, like lowfat cottage cheese, fat free pea soup and clam chowder.

That's what I really like about the Core plan that WW has.  You're supposed to check in and record your "comfort level" before you start eating, eat more slowly and consciously and check in after you're done so you're really more in tune with your body.  It's helped me alot.  I get overhungry, binge, eat fast, and don't stop until I'm feeling sick.  Stupid.  Ick!

That's the type of stuff that helps me when I'm eating consciously.  Oatmeal, black bean soup, and FF cottage cheese are staples.  They help me feel full for a long time, have loads of good stuff (protein, fiber, etc.) and not alot of fat or calories.  Although I like fruit alot, it's like chinese food for me.  Half hour later, I'm hungry again.

Nah, your body needs SOME fat.  Not loads, but it needs some.  If you don't get ENOUGH fat, your skin, hair and nails all suffer.  I know plenty of women who have gone to look real "crinkly" at EXACTLY the time they cut out all the fat in an effort to lose weight.

You should always eat consciously!  If you eat while reading a book or watching TV, you'll go on eating long after you really could have (and should have) stopped Wink  Listen to your body Smile

Well duh!  Stick out tongue   But I'll tell you what, those German Chocolate Cakes got my undivided attention as I devoured them every weekend, believe me!  Big Smile  For me, it's stupid eating, binging on comfort foods and being lazy about planning and just grabbing whatever, usually my favs, mexican, chinese, 7&7s, and GCC!!!  Mmmmm, now I'm getting hungry!  Must go eat sensible brown rice sushi!

Nah, your body needs SOME fat.  Not loads, but it needs some.

I'm aware of that, too. And this week, I've had pork spare ribs. Just not everyday. And with not eating a lot of fat, elsewhere, I can eat the spare ribs and not be concerned. But I've never found the high amounts of fat in some meat to be appetizing. Even when I cook a brisket, it gets a drastic trimming of the slabs of fat that are on it. Nowadays, I would rather smoke a round roast, instead. It's lean and if you cook it with liquid or put liquid in the smoker, it will just fall apart.

I may gain a few pounds in winter time. That's because in winter, I'm not losing so much water. The daily high temps this week, so far have been 100 F to 100 + F. I spent a good chunk of today getting a 1,200 lb 7.5 foot tall switchgear through a 7 foot doorway and into a smaller room and sitting on it's concrete pad. And I did it the easy, with a 1 ton chain hoist but you still have to hold and guide the beast, which sometimes has a mind of its own. I broke a sweat a few times. I drink a couple of Diet Cokes and about 4 bottles of water through an 8 hour day, with lunchtime in an airconditioned office trailer. The fun part was near the end of the day. We have a supertugger (wire pulling machine that will pull 8,000 lbs before it redlines) and it is in a storage container that is dark red. So, it absorbs heat. I went in there to make sure it has all the parts I need for a major wire pull next week. It was so hot in there that when I stepped outside into 102 F, that felt like air conditioning. I should have listened to my mom and become a preacher.
