I registered a while back but only started posting. My name is Agnes, and currently, the only dog we have is Gracie. Gracie is a ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback (mix?). My husband and I adopted her about 14 1/2 years ago and we estimate she is about 17 now. She and I have been through an incredible amount, including my severe depression when I first got her, my husband's deployment to Iraq (Navy corpsman) in 2004, and the birth of our twins John and Gabriella in 2006.
In 2004 while my husband was gone, I adopted a teenage RR from rescue to keep Gracie and I company. He succumbed to a bone tumor that cut off his bowel movements pretty much as my husband was returning home. In 2005, we adopted Mouse, another rescue RR. She was around 8 and although her previous owners hunted wild pigs with her, she was the sweetest dog. She was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer this last spring and succumbed to pneumonia following surgery.
I am going to the RR Rodeo net week. Following that, my husband David and I will probably start looking for another ridgeback. As if having twins wasn't hectic enough, my son has mild cerebral palsy so he has six therapies a week to go to. I recently cut back on my work hours, but still, am thinking we are not ready for a puppy yet. But I do want to stay with ridgebacks. I live in Sacramento, California.
I found this site by searching for pictures of Bonita of Bwana's ridgebacks. I am also on the rr-folk listserve. She had been very helpful to me. I have been reading many of the posts lately and am impressed by the knowledge and understanding that people are showing. I have little computer skills but perhaps will work on posting photos after the Rodeo. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.
