A Local Guy Is Going to The Olympics!!!

I'm just really excited for this guy.  I'm sure I've cursed him as I drive around & get stuck behind a pack of cyclists too.  He may not need them but I'm sure some power i-dog vibes for him would be appreciated.

Sure ... I'll send him some good i-dog vibes!! I know what you mean about getting stuck  behind them.  Have you ever wondered by cyclists of that caliber, who should know better, don't have the good sense to ride single file when they're in traffic and there's no bike lane? I've been in Davis (the bike capital of the world Big Smile) for many, many years and I still can't figure that one out.

Oh, I got so annoyed at them I called the cops to find out what the laws were.  Here in PA they CAN ride 2 abreast.  I'm okay with that, kind of.  I just hate when they are 2 abreast & kind of offset so they're really 3 abreast & on curvy roads with no bike lanes.  There are VERY few straight roads in my area.  I'm fine with sharing the road with cyclist & all but it goes both ways.

That's really cool, Annie, good luck to him!!

I'd be happy if cyclists didn't decide to ride the wrong way down my one-way street.  My street is on a hill and curves at the bottom...one of these days, a car turning into my street is going to mow down some cyclist going full-tilt.  Argh.

But I do love to watch cycling events at the Olympics.  :)

Kate, I hear ya.  I really don't want this to turn into a cyclist bashing thread.  I'm sure they have annoyances with drivers as well.  Actually I'm surprised I haven't heard of more car vs. cyclist problems (ie accidents)

We have a world class Velodrome by us.  We usually make to the races @ least once a summer.  It's a ton of fun to go & watch them ride.

We had a discussion about this recently where I work, I complained that I don't bike because motorist don't look both ways and I was told that bikes are not supposed to be on sidewalks, they are supposed to be IN the road like cars and that it's safer to be in the road than on the sidewalk.  My main beef with cyclists is running stop signs or cutting up alongside cars stopped at a light.  I feel like everyone has the same right to be in the road, but then everyone needs to obey the same rules.  I wish more places had bike lanes, but until they do, bikes are supposed to be in the road.

That's awesome he is going to the Olympics.  We've had several local Olympians and it's fun having someone to cheer for.

That's one of my main beefs too.  When I lived in Boulder they would plow the bike lanes before they plowed the roads.

I'm REALLY excited for Bobby.  I will be watching for him.  I just hope they air his races.

Exactly! It's like they're  totally oblivious to the fact that if they're in the street on something with wheels, stop signs, traffic lights and right of way signs apply to them as well as to drivers. I really hate driving downtown in August when the students start coming back. Here though, the cops will stop them for infractions.
