    Indie got attacked today!

And couldn't have cared less!  Big Smile  Could my dog BE any more laid back?  We were on our usual walk and there was a guy with 2 dogs sitting on a bench near the lake.  One was off lead, a 3-legged mutt, and the other, a shar pei was on leash.  He asked about Indie and I stopped to talk and the dogs were probably 20 feet apart.  The shar pei whips out to the end of his zippy line (whatever those retractable things are called!) and wraps his 2 front legs around Indie's neck and starts chomping, growling, snarling, etc.  Indie just stood there calmly like "Dude, I could totally take you.  Chill."  In the maybe 15 seconds it took for both of us owners to realize what was going on and pull them apart, Indie just stood there.  Woobie tried to get the heck out of there (same thing he does when there's fights at the dog park).

Luckily, there were no marks or wounds on Indie thanks to his big thick ruff but I was pretty amazed by how mellow he stayed.  Even though he plays too rough at the dog park and makes some dogs nervous (I remove him as soon as the signs show up, he doesn't read them so well Confused  )  he's pretty calm even in the face of aggression from other dogs.  There's very much this attitude of "Yeah, whatever, if I need to, I can deal with you."

    Whew.

How scary!  Way to go Indie, for handling it so well.

Good for him for holding back!  Makes you wonder what would get him wound up.  But don't you wish more humans would excercise this kind of control; I know I do.

I have seen him get what I'd call "assertive" at the dog park a couple times.  He and this other brute of a dog named Brutus (big burly lab/bc mix) love to rough house but they always get to a point where one of them wants to be the boss, then they start getting growly and barky in each other's face (at which point we owners call time out).  One other time, this fluffy dog that absolutely hates Woobie (always has) would not leave him alone no matter where he went in the park, so Indie got between them and when the dog pulled the same move on Indie that the shar pei did, he did the same type of bark that he does with Brutus and assumed this face forward stance with this dog and just kept her at bay and away from Woobie by lunging forward and barking in her face.  But I've never seen any display from him that truly seems aggressive or angry, it's always sort of with the demeanor that says "That's enough!"  or in response to Brutus, it's sort of like "No! I'M the boss!"

Luckily the shar pei's owner was very apologetic, I think he just caught him off guard.  I do wish people had this type of control.  Big Smile
