MSNBC The Week in Pictures

    MSNBC The Week in Pictures

Well, with the current discussions revolving both journalism and photojournalism, I thought I might bring up one of my very favorite things to look through: The MSNBC Week in Pictures.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3842331/

I *love* photography, and I also love down to earth news. I don't really have much of an opinion of MSNBC in general, but I really love this weekly slideshow. I feel that the publication helps to bring news to people that may not otherwise have been as engaging, as widespread, or even discussed at all. For example, a few years ago I had first heard of the civil wars going on in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was even more shocked to learn that thousands of people die *daily* in these conflicts. The first I had heard was on MSNBC week in pictures.

There are also less "newsy" pictures, simply photographs that are nice to look at, but there are, indeed, photos that bring tears to your eyes due to the suffering of the world.

I just think its compelling and am curious to know if others like it too.

I get it delivered to my inbox every week.

My newest discovery is that tens of thousands of children were orphaned as a result of the Sichuan earthquake. Saddening. Maddening.

I love those pics too.  Makes you stop and see all the diverse opinions on what is beautiful/newsworthy/interesting.  As much as I love to read, I'm even more so a visual person.  To this day, a picture from MSN of some mosque domes (the onion looking things) silouetted against a night sky and big ole gold moon sticks me with.  It was so gorgeous and I wish I could find it but that was years ago.

    Scrubs,

I so love the pictures too, and wish I could save some of my favorites onto my computer, or print them our for use in my classroom (my students are English Language Learners and pictures literally are worth a thousand words.) but I have yet to figure out a way to save them.
