Bad dog park experiences

I never even thought about how close MY face was to a dog that weighed as much as I do. In retrospect, what was I thinking?!!

You were thinking the same thing I was when a mini poodle flung herself on Rory's back and started biting. I picked up my 60lbs pit bull and ran down the street with her. It was a sight to say the least, LOL

I rarely go to the dog park anymore. However, i've had some run ins with some nasty dogs in my neighborhood lately. Namely, a bichon who is quite vicious. I have always thought bichons were known for a great disposition, but wow oh wow this one is nasty. There are also 2 nasty goldens on my street.

My neighbors also have 2 chis and a doxie. I'm sure you all have heard me complain about them before. They don't wear leashes and they are aggressive. The other day, they ran out of their yard to my boyfriend and were yapping and growling at him at his feet. Sorry, but the day these dogs attack me for getting in my vehicle, it's on!!

It really bothers me how innefectual the owners of these types of dogs are. Never keeping up with their dog, never immediately pulling it off or correcting aggressive behaviors. Ugh!

You aren't kidding!  It's always the owners who are sitting around chatting not minding their dogs who seem to have the dogs with the most problems.  I'm near Harry 100% of the time we're at the park.  I stand back and let him play with other dogs, but I'm never far enough away to where I couldn't get to him in seconds if something were to happen.  When the JRT came to attack Harry the 2nd time, I tried blocking him for a good 20-30 seconds before he was able to slip around me.  The owner should have been able to get to her dog in that amount of time.  I could hear her calling his name the whole time, so she knew he was gone the second he took off.  She should have been right behind him.  Stupid people ruin it for everyone!!

Bwhahaha, that does sound like a funny sight, although it sometimes it seems like the easiest way to deal with small dogs on the attack is to pick your dog up.  I can usually use the body block method with great success on 99% of medium-large dogs, but the smaller ones are a pain and will just whip right under your feet to get to your dog.  Seems like the only time I ever end up picking up Kirby is when around other ill mannered little dogs because it is just easier to deal with them that way then play the shuffle my dog around my feet game. -___-
