Residents of Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri?

News this morning was sad. Widespread tornado and storm damage, many injured and high loss of life.

Anyone know which members are from these area's?

Westcot mom is from near the border ... and a few others. It's been SUCH a bad year for storms/twisters for them.

That system came through middle GA in the early morning hours. Not much damage in my town but Macon and north got hit pretty badly. They are now saying it was an F2 tornado that ripped through the business section of So Macon. My son manages a men's clothing store there, but I haven't heard if they sustained damage yet. He said he was going in to check, but there are trees and power lines down all over. The only fortunate thing was that it happened during non-business hours....

Off the top of my head, Sooner's in OK City, and Espencer's in St. Louis, luckily it doesn't look like either of those areas were hit?

Our area had some damage from storms a few days ago, but nothing like this. Picher, a small town in eastern Oklahoma, was virtually wiped out - and the people in that town were dealing with hardship anyway. It had been a mining town and recently parts had started to collapse due to the tunnels underneath - and if that wasn't enough it was declared a toxic waste site and the government has been buying out homes there. It's a poor town and most were uninsured - many more were expecting buyouts and may now get nothing since there is nothing left to buy. It's a horrible situation and my thoughts are with the people affected here in Oklahoma and further east in the storms' path.

Sooner, maybe you can explain something I heard on the news earlier today.  They were showing films of Picher and said they weren't going to  rebuild the city because of the hills in the background.  Haven't the hills always been there ... even before the city was built in the first place?

No, those aren't natural hills. They are mountains of mine waste - mostly lead. It's the Tar Creek Superfund site (Google it if you want some horrifying reading) - the government has put $150 million into cleaning it up, but some estimates say it will take $50 billion to make the area safe again.

Oh Good Lord!!!  It's astounding the little details they manage to leave out of a news report.

The tornado was in southwest Missouri, St Louis on the east only had a big storm and a lot of wind that make a couple old trees fall but nothing as bad
