Mindless Chatter Saturday

    Mindless Chatter Saturday

    I hate working nights. Blerg.

I might throw my wireless router out the window. The internet works if I plug it right into my computer, but when I hook it up to the router my laptop SAYS I have a signal but then the internet doesn't work. I hate this darn thing. Considering I'm going to need to be on the computer all day for work, I guess I'm sitting on the floor no more than 30 inches away from the router. Sigh.

It's a grouchy sort of morning.

I lost my laptop. and we've not been able to get the wireless card to work with the desktop.  This sucks.  Dialup is NOT my friend.  But, at least I can get online, so I won't fuss.

The poor laptop has had coffee spilled on it, but the killer seemed to be the water that it got the other day.  It wasn't much water, however.....

Ever tried to find room in an already overcrowded RV for a full sized computer??  Sigh.

And, blast, it's COLD here this morning.  A whooping 34 degrees.  I wanna crawl back in bed with my nice warm blankies and dogs.

Meg wish I could pop by and help you but my technical skills are limited to 'playing' with the computer/router not being able to tell anyone what I do.

Glenda I think you have the patience of a saint.  It can't be easy - fingers crossed that you are on your way to a house soon.

We had another heavy storm overnight and Bugsy is just loving the wet grass.  He's been in and out so many times that I finally just dug a stuffie out of the closet to entertain him for a bit.  He goes so completely insane when he gets a stuffed toy - poor deprived dog Geeked

I just moved my desk closer to the modem, LOL. I'm just going to plug and unplug it all day until I do something right.

I've gone to the dark side - I used a Flexi for Pirate's walk this morning. We have pretty nice nature trails next to our neighborhood and no one is ever on them. He behaved PERFECTLY and came back when I called him. He was so thrilled with the 'freedom' that he had a major zoomie burst when we got home!

I hope you hear something soon Glenda. I'd be nutso by now!

Re. the router - a router does two main things: connects a bunch of computers to a network, and gives Internet access through the modem.  These two can be independent of each other, meaning, I can plug in a router and NOT plug it into a modem if all I want to do is network some laptops to each other.  The WAN on the router needs to be correctly configured for the additional Internet access.  You'll have to plug your laptop into the router, then type it's IP address in an Internet browser.  It depends on the brand (would be written on the router or in the manual).  A common one is 198.162.0.1.  It will have you login to the router.  Again, the username and password depends on the brand of router and you can change it once you're in.  Then you need to configure the WAN based on the settings form your Internet service provider.  For wireless, you may also want to configure those settings to use a key so it's more secure.
