Does your dog remind you of one that's gone?

Does your dog remind you of one that's gone?

So....just wondering....do any of you (and I'm sure you do) have dogs now that remind you of ones of yours that have passed on? More than being the same species, lol. Does it make you happy/sad?

Ozzie & Kelsey were two of our past Irish Setters, they were siblings. They were literally with us their whole lives - they were puppies of Brenna, another one of our Irish Setters. They passed away within a month of each other in early 2000 at the age of 12, and it was extremely devastating for me. Man, I loved those dogs sooo much and spent more time with them than anyone else in the family for sure. Well, the point I'm trying to get at is that Riley reminds me of Ozzie in some ways. He always will do whatever he can to make me happy. I can see the resemblance in his face - for some reason, the most so when he is panting, lol. And this goes beyond the two being male Irish Setters. If you know the breed you can tell all of them apart quite easily, though I know they look very similar to a lot of people. And there's just something else about Riley that reminds me of Ozzie so much...I can't put my finger on it, but it's there. It makes me really happy though.

So...what do you think? Any similar experiences?

Not really. Smile Previous dog "Bud" - small, black, didn't shed, could be trusted walking off leash, was pretty barky and was a bit wary of strangers.  "Max" - much bigger, yellow, sheds like a maniac, can't be trusted off leash for a minute, doesn't bark much at all and will go to anyone that looks at him. Other than being the same species, there's really no comparison at all.

My smaller dog Onyx reminds me of my Pint is a way.  In some ways she couldn't be any more different, but once in a while, she looks at me just the way Pint used to.  That,"Mom, this is really not making me feel good, am I really gonna be ok?"  look was something I came to expect from Pint.  She had a rough start to life and as a result had lifelong issues.  Onyx just missed some serious socialization I think and has a few of those issues too.  She looks to me for reassurance and that endears her to me.

Woobie has some of the traits and habits my deceased airedale Rush had.  He's not super cuddly, will let you pet and love on him for a bit and then he moves across the room to lie by himself.  He gives you his butt for scritches and prefers that to face to face affection.  And Woobie now lies in the exact 2 spots Rush spent all his time in.  But there are big differences too, Woobie is pretty timid in most situations, Rush was very outgoing and confident and loved kids, which Woobie hates.  Rush had issues with male dogs, Woobie loves every dog and gets along with them all.

Kenya and Coke are the first dogs my own, but my uncles and aunt keep saying how much Kenya reminds them of my uncle's old Shepherd, even call her by his name.  I don't remember the dog, even though he bit me in the face when I was 2.

There is a person on the GSD board that has a mix that looks so much like Coke I can't believe it....I need to find out what his mix is, maybe I can figure out what mix Coke is.

Bandit and Shelby have some similar characteristics. He is his own dog though and I wouldn't ever compare one to the other.
