Stolen Bird **UPDATE: Reunited with Owners!**

Moderators, I'm not sure where to place this thread... Someone on another board posted this from their local Craigslist in Charlotte, NC :

    Please crosspost.

Our home was broken into while we were at dinner Sat night (May 3rd) and our beloved 14 year old Hyacinth Macaw, Mason, was stolen. He was the ONLY thing stolen, someone specifically came in to take him. None of his food, toys or cage was taken. His band was removed at the scene and found outside his cage. BIRD ENTHUSIASTS AND STORES PLEASE BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR ANYONE TRYING TO SELL A HYACINTH!!! Hyacinths are NOT very common in the general pet trade so be suspicious of anyone trying to sell a hyacinth, especially inexpensively! Mason is MICROCHIPPED!!! In birds this is in their breast, please scan for chips! Mason has an AVID chip. Mason is a very good talker and will always say "Come in!" if you make a knocking sound. He is very friendly and will go to anyone. He has just gone through a molt and lost his primary tail feathers so his tail is a little short.

Mason is our only pet, our child, PLEASE HELP HIM COME BACK HOME! We are offering a $7,500 reward for the safe return of Mason NO QUESTIONS ASKED. If I had a million dollars I would offer it for my baby boy back. Our house is so empty without him and I had to have my husband move his cage and gyms out of the living room because I couldnt walk past them and not see Mason. PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL!

She posted an update today that was so heartbreaking. Someone had come across a Hyacinth Macaw that they felt matched the description of Mason as well as the behavior. The poster drove all the way to Georgia only to find that it wasn't Mason.

If anyone thinks they know where Mason is, PM me and I can forward her email contact to you.

I will be glad to forward any information to the person who posted this.

Wow.  One sad thing about this is that the thief broke in specifically to get the bird, so it must have been someone that had been in their home before ... a so called friend. Sad Fingers and paws crossed that Mason will be returned home soon.

GOOD NEWS! The bird was found and has been reunited with his owners!

    Crosspost:

THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH

I have my baby boy home- the person who stole mason sold him to a car dealer in Columbia. The car dealer had him in his office and was planning to give him to his wife for Mothers day when someone forwarded him a posting from the internet (I dont know which one, because of all of the cross posting) he decided on the off chance that he had Mason to take him to the vet to be scanned for a chip, and low and behold it was my baby. They called me immediatly and I went down and got him and let me tell you I have never in my life been so happy. He is ok, a little scared and he looks like he has lost some weight but we will be going to our vet in the AM to check him out. The car dealer only paid $4000 for Mason, and that was all he would take back as reward (and we paid the vet bill) so we bought his wife a very nice necklace for mothers day with a hyacinth macaw on it

THANK YOU {names removed}!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its because of honest people like you that I have any faith in this world!

And for everyone else: PLEASE PLEASE be careful when purchasing animals and remember that they could easily be stolen! $4000 is VERY VERY cheap for a Hyacinth, and we are lucky that {name removed} realized that and it raised red flags. He paid cash for Mason but he has the man's cell phone number and it is a Charlotte area code (980).

    ACCORDING TO {name removed}:
The man who sold Mason was in his late 30s- early 40s, light skinned black male, green or light colored eyes, no beard, shaved head, very articulate and polite, said he ran a petstore in Charlotte and had to make room so he was selling Mason for 75% off. he drove a newish (he said anywhere from 2005-2008) red yukon with red rims on the wheels. He was about 6ft tall or a little higher and weighed around 200 LBS, roughly. He sold Mason in a brand new dog crate with a dish of water and sunflower seeds. The dishes/crate still had the stickers on them and appear to be from a petsmart. He gave his name as {names removed} (not sure of spelling on the last name)

IF ANYONE knows of someone meeting this description please contact me ASAP. We are now using the remaining reward money ($5000) to be offered for any information leading to this man's conviction.

It's so nice there is a happy ending.  Hyacinths are my favorite of the macaws.  (Although given the fact that those birds can crack Brazil nuts in thier beaks, they sort of intimidate me.)

YAY!  Now let's hope the scumbag who stole him is caught.
