    It's been a year

Since we had to have Lola put down.  She was 8 months old.  On Sunday she had a look about her that we could tell she wasn't well, something wasn't right.  She played fine, ate fine, just something in her face we could tell wasn't there.  We brought her to the emergency vet because of a look.  The e vet found a lump on her upper inner thigh, there wasn't anymore they could do, so we brought her home and the next morning we brought her to her vet first thing in the morning.

On the way up to the door to the vet Lola lost her back end.  The vet thought it might have to do with the lump, so they would remove it, and after would try to get her to stand.  The lump was removed, the anethetics wore off and they told us if she could stand she would be okay, if not then we would have to take her to the vet hospital about 2 hours away.  She couldn't stand, so she was taken to the vet hospital monday afternoon.

They ran countless tests on her Monday and into Tuesday.  By Tuesday afternoon the paralysis was spreading up her body.  They told us Tuesday evening (a year tomorrow) that the paralysis will eventually strangle her, so we should probably come and say goodbye.  They still had NO idea what was going on, she couldn't feel pain anymore, which they said was a bad sign.  We lost her Tuesday night.  The vet hospital staff was so nice to us, sent us a card and a plaque with her paw print.  I regret saying goodbye though, seeing her like that was awful.

They did a post mortem and found it was galloping spinal cancer which is apparently very rare.  But they told us it isn't hereditary

Sorry for my ramble.  Lola was not from a breeder, she was from a family whose dog was pregnant.  I can't say I regret getting her though.  I loved her so much.  Actually (I know this is bad of us) but Maddie and Zack are from a second litter from this family, but are very fine.  Please don't get mad at me, this was before I found the forum and found out how not good BYBs are.  Here is Lola:

Lola was a cutie! I'm very sorry for your loss. Just remember all the good times you had with her and all the smiles she brought to your face. I'm sure that's how she would want to be remembered.

She looks like she was a very sweet girl.  You really knew how to read her face, didn't you?

I'm sorry for your loss and glad that you are sharing her with us, we'll celebrate her with you.

It's a meaningful lesson to those who believe that a dog's proper place is in the backyard - where she could not have communicated her discomfort until it was far too late.  And, to those who think that love is measured by time, another lesson.

    Thank you for sharing.

I second what VanMorrison has written.

Its good for the soul to journal your experiences; and I'm so glad you have this forum in which to do so.  We all care so much for our fur babies and understand completely what your heart is going through on this year anniversary.

Lola waits for you at the Rainbow Bridge along with my Codycoe and the others.

Lola was a cutie! Good for you for having a "gut" feeling. As hard as it was/is for you, you did the right thing by her. Hugs to you!

Aw, she was a sweet little gal.  Glad you have your two to keep you warm with puppy love!

It does take time to not feel sad about losing a pup or older dog.  Can't help but think it also makes or can make a heart bigger though.  We need to care for a dog here. Or two!

Your note is such a special tribute to Lola. I'll bet her ears are ringing from all of us sending thoughts of hello.  I'm sorry you lost Lola so young and it happened so fast.  That is one of my worst nightmare.

Thank you everybody for your kind thoughts and words.  Lola came to our house at a time when she was very needed.  A few months before we got her we lost our 13 year old dog, Goliath.  She brought such happiness and love into our homes.  It was just such a shock, we didn't think it was even possible to lose a pup so young, and so quickly, with no answers until after her death.

    Thank you all again
