School Bullies?

    School Bullies?

I've seen this news story repeatedly tonight and I guess it just kind of bothers me... [http://www.wftv.com/news/16056732/detail.html]

The 'ringleader' of all of this doesn't seem very...sorry? He's very quick to blame the school for not helping him. I really think he's being manipulative and using the news to make the public feel pity on him. He's a middle schooler, he's old enough to know that you don't say things like he said. He was in the process of obtaining a GUN, for goodness sake.

Things like this make me scared to work in the public school system.

Well I must confess that I miss the good ole days when you could punch out a bully and have most of the teacher’s thank you for it. Now even defending yourself against a bully is frowned on. Schools tell kids to seek help and when they do in most cases nothing is done about it. Kids are taunted and teased and yet they have no defense because busting the bullies’ nose is just politically incorrect nowadays. It is a shame, as that seems to work very well for bullies. I know my oldest son had trouble at school with people picking on him; he was skinny and scrawny when he was little. I would always tell him to tell the teachers and to not fight, and it got so bad that I basically turned him loose. He has been in martial arts since he was 5 and was more than able to defend himself. I informed the school that he was still having trouble and that I had given him my permission to take care of the matter. They still did nothing and when my son slammed two of the bullies into a wall and knocked the other ones tooth out he was suspended. But he never had any further issues with bullies.  I know it is wrong to fight, we should never go out of our way to hurt anyone, but at the same time IMO bullies at school could use a good ass kicking and in most cases that will fix the problem. I was brought up to be respectful and nice to everyone but at the same time not to allow anyone to walk all over me. I have tried to teach my kids the same. I was in numerous fights in school growing up, in the beginning they were because I was being bullied, later they were because other people were being bullied, but I never once even thought about bringing a weapon in and killing people because of it. Bullying is wrong and if there is nothing else in the world that you care to teach your kids for God's sakes teach them not to bully others. I would have no problem with this kid knocking out one of the kids that bullied him, but killing them and killing others is not the right answer and the kid seems old enough to know this.

I think they should change the rules a bit. Kids should have to tell authorities that they are being bullied and who is doing it, if the authorities are unable to stop it then the kid should be able to punch the lights out of the bully without fear of reprisal.
