Normally one might say that I'm jealous, but I don't think that's the case considering that I just got a puppy of my own.....
Anyhow, I'm fuming over this and need to know if I'm justified or not. My brother & his wife have a Basset Hound named Daisy. They got Daisy when she was about eight months old -- she must be about 2 1/2 now. They have not done a LICK of training with Daisy. They let her get morbidly obese and finally listened to me & the vet when she started to develop joint problems from the weight. They put her on a diet and got her down to 50 pounds (from 65 -- vet says she should be closer to 45 but 50 is better than 65....). Daisy has no manners, jumps on people, runs out the door and steals food. Whatever, it's their dog.
My SIL got pretty jealous when I got Kaiser. She's just like that. Obviously it put "puppy" on her brain, but I didn't think that my brother would actually want to add another dog to their house (they also have three young children).
I was wrong. Last night they apparently got a puppy from their neighbor. Issue #1 -- It's only six weeks old. I told my brother that in many states it's illegal to sell a puppy under eight weeks. He had no idea when I told him about all of the issues that can crop up with dogs that are separated from their litter that early. He totally brushed me off when I told him he should really consider putting her in the puppy preschool class that Kaiser and I are starting next week. He thinks that Daisy will be all the socialization that the puppy needs. Yeah... If you want her to learn horrible manners...
Their neighbor told them that it's a "mini Cocker Spaniel." First of all, uh, do Cockers come in mini?? She's blue merle in color and has a blue eye. Last I knew, the only recognized Cocker colors are Black, ASCOB and Party. So basically I'm thinking, "hmm, designer dog?"
Really though, that's the least of my worries. I'm just upset that my brother bought a dog that was only six weeks old and has zero intention of doing any training with it, just like the other dog. I'm just waiting for the day that they decide that Daisy needs to go because she's not getting on well with the puppy.... They bought the puppy entirely on impulse and without any planning whatsoever.
I'm hoping it turns out for the best, but I'm so irritated by my brother (or more so, his wife) sometimes. He doesn't even have Daisy licensed for crying out loud. They are irresponsible dog owners and now they just got another one. He dumped his cats off at the pound right before they got Daisy, so I'm just waiting for them to do that to her...
I really did expect better from my brother.
