Dieting sucks.

I'm dieting right now too, and doing many of the same things as you kle....I am bored alot and eating out of boredom, I've gained 30 lbs in the last two years and I'm trying to lose 20 of that. I've added an extra walk with the dogs, cut out my snacking on junk food and am eating turkey sandwiches for lunch instead of fast food and snacking on apples with a little peanut butter or spreadable cheese on them. We used to eat out several nights a week, but we can't really afford to do that anymore for a while, so that helps too.

I've also been trying to occupy myself like someone else said, so I won't be so bored in the first place, so my house is freakishly clean right now. I even did yard work, and that's highly out of the ordinary for me.

I agree, 5 pounds is just fine.  Sounds like you have a reasonable goal and plan too.  Good luck!

I lost 5 lbs my first week when I started.  Like Callie said, I think it was a lot of water weight.  I went for 4 cans of pop (not diet) a day to JUST water or no cal sugarless lemonade.  Unlike what people were telling me, I was not intentionally drinking tons of water.  I've read that there's no reason to force yourself to drink lots of water if you are not thirsty.  I drink maybe 12 oz during the day at work and another 8-12 for dinner/before I work out and sometimes a little after.  Basically, I drink when I'm actually thirsty, which is not really that often.  I've never had any issues being dehydrated or having urinary or kidney problems.  I have lost about 25 lbs since Jan but have not really lost more than a pound in the past month and a half because I am now training myself to maintain my new weight without having to obsess over calories.

I have gained 30lbs also. And the sad thing is that was AFTER I had Samantha. I only gained 13lbs when I was pregnant with her 2 1/2 years ago.

I also eat turkey sandwiches for lunch. I love turkey and ham/cheese loaf sandwiches.

I enjoy taking Samantha and going out to eat. Even though it's not breaking us when I go out to eat I decided it would be better to not go out as much(diet wise) and I can use the money I used to spend on eating out on better things. Especially since gas is high, it's getting nice out now and I want to do agility with Lillie I really could put the money towards that.

Thanks for the advice and I eat plenty or vegetables and fruits. I just also love chicken and fish. I also do my exercises that I am allowed to do. Its different for people with back surgeries and a recent ankle sprain I am limited to my duties.

I know grapefruit was pushed a lot but we don't like it.  apples are good, oranges and maybe cantelope were the best low-sugar fruits.    We're picky so I probably just didnt' pay attention to the ones we didn't like  The reason to avoid high sugar ones, even though its natural sugar so better than processed sugar is the effect on your body sugar -- you dont want huge glycemic changes throughout the day since it usually makes you hungrier.

If you are concerned about glycemic impact specifically, you can look this information up easily on any food - diabetics and other people with metabolic disorders need this information and there are many publications out there to help them (not to mention all the sites geared toward low-carbers).

This one is geared toward South Beachers.  Lots of options in the medium range: http://www.southbeach-diet.info/low-carb-fruit.php  Note that there's a difference between GI and GL, which makes watermelon a feasible choice for most people in spite of its high sugar content.
