I saved the life of a cat today!!!

I went to my mentors house because I was going to work on my project for school. So as I waited for them to get home I let out their three dogs that stay home while they go to work (Abby, Coco, Ruger). So we went to play in the pond they have and all was great. We played for about 30-45 minutes. So as we where going back to the house the three dogs turn to the right of the path towards a barn they have where I colony of cats live. So I turned left, in hopes that they would follow, but as I turned around to see if they where coming I suddenly saw a cat run and the dogs after it. I tougth they weren't going to catch the cat and that the cat was going to run up a tree. Nope, Abby grabbed it by the tale and swung the poor cat around and they where flinging it aroud. As soon as I saw Abby grab the cat I said "Oh S%^&!" I ran to help it (I normally don't say bad words but I could not help it Embarrassed). I got to them and as soon as I was in range I shouted their names and Abby and Ruger let go but Coco is a cat killer and she had the cat in her jaws so I had a Go Get It in my hands and I just smacked Coco with it and she let go. If I hadn't done that I am pretty sure she would not have let go. Coco ran to one of the pastures by the horses and I had Abby on my left and Ruger on the right and I did what CM does, and it worked lol, not to mention the poor cat was right behind me.  I kept my ground and every time Abby moved towards the cat I did the tst sound and she got the point all the time she stayed about 5ft from me and the cat. I did the same thing to Ruger and she did the same as Abby, stayed away from me and the cat. They didn't even come close to me after I went into the woods to see if the cat was alright. I didn't find the cat but the dogs stayed about 10-15ft away from the woods edge. I hope the cat only got a good shackin and that nothing is wrong with it. I told my mentors about the insident and they said they would keep and eye out to see if they can see how the cat is. They don't know what cat it is though because the only thing I remember was it was black with orange patchs (all I saw was a blurr of the cat!).

I am glad I was able to help that poor cat! My next thing is to teach the dogs to stay away from the cats, its going to be hard for Coco but I know we can do it.

poor kitty!!!! black and orange sounds like a calico which is likely a female.. i hope she didnt have any kittens or was pregnant during this!

good job in rescuing and getting your dogs to release and leave it alone. i had a dog in the past that was a cat killer..... only he was worse because we would wait for the cat to come to him. yes. he would act quiet and calm and innocent and the cat would just stroll past instead of running for its life..... he killed my grandads cat and one of mine, plus attacked another. each time it happened was when he had managed to escape....

we have our hands full now with this lost shepherd puppy. she's still young and impressionable but she acts like my grandparents cat killing dog right now... bothers me a lot!

Well I went to my instructors house today and they said they saw some vulturs flying above the woods where the cat ran off to when she got attacked. They say she might have not survived the attack. She said the cat probably had internal damage since none of the dogs drew blood but she said she will wait and see if she sees the cat. I hope the cat is ok.

You did good! Congrats - you are officially "the cat saver"
I hope the kitty is alright and he voltures found a dead rat or somthing, or maybe a snake. I don't know, do voltures eat snakes?

    Keep us updated!

typically vultures circle to look for food. its when they land or you see them landing that something has gotten their interest. they arent picky eaters, rats, snakes, deer, possums.. cats.. its all on the menu.

i wouldnt doom the cat yet just because you saw birds over head. lol they fly over my property a lot and we dont have dead animals everywhere... except for hunting season if a hunter leaves a carcass or loses a kill... those birds could be flying for any number of reasons. road kill being #1.. #2 would be a nesting or roosting sight.

i'm terribly curious though... if i was in this situation i would have to go look and see what i could find of the cat, or at the very least see what is interesting the buzzards.
But thats because i collect animal skulls as a hobby.....

I was going to go take a look but we were leaving to Virginia so I had to let it be. I am pretty sure there are a bunch of animal skulls around their property. I am pretty sure my mentors would not mind you going over to their place and pick up all the dead deer's skulls that are close to their property. Their neighbors apparently kill young deers and just take the good parts and dump everything else. Last time we went to see the mess they made there where like 5 dead young deer. The ground is litter with deer bones. I will check though to see if the cat is around next time I go, which will probably be next Sat.
