    chew toy ideas...

for a 4 week old, small breed pup.

My newest foster is a shih tzu/maltese pup... His momma kept pushing him away, and he was pretty much on the road to doggy heaven when I got him. He's doing really well now - eating his mush like a pro! But, since he is so small - what can I give him to chew on? He was nawing on the metal bar of the crate this morning, and my fingers...

I've got to take Casey to petsmart tonight to get more food - so I just need some ideas for what I am looking for while I'm there.

Perhaps a picture of the little guy would help us think of chewing ideas.... Wink

I've used cat toys for small dogs.  I agree, though, that pictures of the pup might help us to give better ideas.

I know, I know......I will get the pictures. This one was on my phone - when he was first turned in. He looks a ton better now. I just gave him a bath though - so I'll get more up tonight.

I've got a bunch of cat toys around... but they are mostly those catnip mice and balls.

When Honor was younger, she liked those cat toys that looked like ball-shaped mice that rattled.  They were pretty durable, but I supervised her with them because of the rattly stuff inside.  There's also a puppy sized Wubba that might be fun.  Honor also liked teeny tiny rope toys.   I would get your pup a small stuffie too, because most dogs can chew stuffies, even if they're a little too big.

I got him a small Orka chewy bone at Target today. He's got tons of stuffed bears to snuggle with in his crate. His teeth are just starting to break the gum lines, and he doesn't quite have his paws under him yet...so he's not really playing too much yet - just starting to act like a real pup.

That's how old my puppy is right now. Cool  Only he's safe with him mamma and his sisters for another 4 weeks.

What about just a towel or piece of flannel with a knot in it? Kit's favourite chew toys are toilet paper rolls and strips of cloth.
