    Momma won't eat

Hey everyone. I am searching for some kitty cat advice. My foster cat had her babies approx 2 weeks ago. The kittens are growing well but momma won't eat. I've tried 3 diffrent kinds of dry food (2 kitten one cat) 2 diffrent wet food flavors milk and egg. She just won't eat. She nibbles durring the day but not enough to fill her tummy. She is extreamly thin for a momma cat! Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could feed her. She really needs to gain weight and start producing more milk.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Jessie

Canned A/D food is great (you get that from your vet) and so is baby food. You could also try a bit of canned tuna to spark her appitite a bit.

I notcied momma nibbling this morning. I talked to a friend of mine and she thinks the cats may be used to table scraps and thats why she won't eat. But since she is starting to (littole by little) I think I will just wait it out. I got some formula from the shelter for my skinny kitten.

With a nursing momma, it is not safe to wait it out. She needs food - and now. The kitten should not be skinny. Kittens are supposed to be plump. A nursing mom gives everything to her babies.

You need to get her to eat, now. Wait it out after the kitten is weaned.

3 of the 4 kittens are plump, the one who is skinny (Jet Puff) I have started bottle feeding. Just a little extra to help her out. Momma has started eating regularly. All looks well.

I always use canned tuna or canned salmon when all the canned food fails.......I have never seen a cat turn down tuna or salmon......

    Good luck......

super simple suplement, I have used it on my litters for ages and the moms can not steal enough of it. My vet develpoed it for the lions at our local zoo!

1 pound liver boiled,  remove meat SAVING broth,  I usually freeze the meat till the next show or training class.

If babies are very young , strain the broth to seperate the meaty bits , a simple coffe stariner works well. once they are older I leave it in.

Add 1 can condensed milk, 2 egg yolks, 1 tablspn light karo syrup, 2 tbsp  plain yogurht   put into a blender and process until you have a liver shake.

Warm gently and feed via oral syringe to kitten and in bowl to momma. If need be take a plump kit and put some on it, mom will clean the kitten and normally begin to eat.

IF she is not eating VERY soon get her to a vet, she may have some post delivery complications.

Hope we get ot see pics of the babies and momma soon.

Thanks, Momma is eating regularly now, actually it seems as if she is ALWAYS eating! WooHoo! Kittens are getting bigger, I will post some pictures as soon as I find my camera.

The one small kit is also eating more. I have been supplementing with New Born, whish is what the shelter gave me to use.

If anyone knows where it is...please let me know! Confused
