Easy Walk - Does this look right?

I got Easy Walk harnesses for the dogs.  I'm not sure I have it fitted right though.  It just seems too tight.  But any looser and she can pull her legs out.  For those who have used one before, does this look right?

You know, I believe it is right. The different colored strap goes under the belly like you have. Funny, I use it all the time on Teddi but looking at the pictures makes me want to go and try his on just to make sure you have yours right...but I believe you do.

I can't really tell you how to fit it, as my obedience trainer helped me fit Teddi's right. I guess just make it tight enough so they can't slide their legs out of it, but not too tight where its uncomfortable for the dog to wear. For example, Teddi is able to run in his without coming out of it, but it also doesn't bother him to have it on while running. Hope that helped...

It looks right to me as well.  It looks pretty much the same as Honor's.

Ditto to that.  It has to be tight enough so that the re-direction of pulling can happen, but you don't want it to be loose enough to slip out of.  Honor can run, jump, etc. in hers.

I think the ring is supposed to sit farther back, behind the shoulder.  But then again, I couldn't get the darned think to fit Zoe so I gave up on it.

I'd say the chest straps are too tight - the shoulder strap looks way too far forward and I generally try to have the girth strap straight vs. at an angle like in your picture.  Some dogs do have chests that don't quite fit as nicely in Easy Walks, so to prevent sagging or escapes, I generally have people clip the front ring to the collar as a back up and anchor.

I agree the chest strap is to tight, it should look like the above pic..or the dog might get sore under arms

isn't that ring supposed to be at the back of the neck to hook the leash onto?  doesn't look right to me, Bonnie wears one with no problems.  If it is too loose though, they will pull out of it.

In the third picture down, that ring is supposed to be at the back not in the front, that is where you hook the leash onto isn't it?  The way you have it now where do you hook the leash onto?

The Easy Walk harness is designed for the ring/leash attachement to be in the front, center of chest.  This is how it discourages pulling - when they pull, the resistance from the leash pulls them off center.  Perhaps you have a different kind of harness Auburn?

I'm trying to understand what Stardog said about clipping the ring to the collar as a safety/backup?  The photo doesn't show that, does it?  I'm really not quite clear on what you meant by that Stardog!  My mind isn't constructing an image that makes any sense!!

Sorry to confuse with the wording - you are correct that the pic I posted doesn't show that.  I clip the leash to the front ring of the harness and then, using the same leash clip, also clip it to the D ring on a martingale or buckle collar - your leash will be clipped to both at the same time and the harness will be roughly centered high on the dog's chest, thus preventing escapes or sagging.  That clearer?

Fit seems to be more of an issue with smaller dogs ime - most of the dogs we do this on are under 40lbs, majority of those under 25 I would say.

Thanks, yes I guess Bonnie's is different hers hooks on the back, so hers is not an easy harness then.  Sorry about that. Smile

:o) I was confused by the clipping to the collar, too.  I guess that's what I'll have to do b/c I tried making the front looser so the back parts would be straight and after 10 minutes she had walked one leg out of it.

I was worried about it rubbing the back of her legs.  When you clip it to the collar does it still help w/ pulling?

If you can, try tightening up the top and loosening up the bottome along with loosening the front.  The pieces that go over the shoulders and under the belly should be as straight as possible. If you can't get it to fit, you may have a size that just isn't working for your dog. You may want to try an in between side (they make petite/small, medium/small, and medium/large). Of all the dogs that I've fit with easy walks, very few have the "perfect" chest and it takes some work to get a really good fit. It is certainly possible though.

    ETA:

From the looks of it, I would try to go to a medium/small, or possibly even a medium. If you got it at a local store, can you bring your dog in a try on a few different sizes?
