    Nature's Own Facials

I have a silly hound, imagine that!  I always intend to share with y'all the spa treatment Joey enjoys while going on our walks.  He just loves loves loves to rub his face in the grass and in bushes.  He'll stick his face to the ground and then push with his back legs so he scoots across a yard on his cheeks and head.  He especially likes it if there's acorns or sticks for extra scrachin.  And then to get a good one for his whole body, he'll rub forcefully against any bushes that are near the street and then roll around in the yard for good measure.

Any one else have a pup who likes nature's own facials and full-body massages?

Shane loves to scoot around on his belly when he is outside.  Its really cute because he is using all four legs and doing like an army man crawl thing.  Got to love our critters!

Yes to the army man crawl and the face rub. It appears to be especially good after a really long hike. [:)]

mtntop - I have friends who have put that belly crawl on cue and called it "be sneaky." [sm=lol.gif]

I think that's definitely a hound thing.  Maska slides across the lawn on his face, and sometimes I catch him rubbing it on my woodwork, or on the chain link of his very-special-I-get-marrow-bones-in-there kennel.

Romy LOVES a good roll in the grass on a warm day.  [&:]

chico loves to roll around outside as well, it's especially funny when he drags himself with just his front paws so that his belly is rubbing the ground and you see his little tiny legs sticking straight back.

Crusher found some deep snow at the marina the other day.  It had a good crust on top.  He rolled and rubbed in that for quite some time.  Once in a while he would break through the crust and his head would fall through.  He would come up snorting and dive back in.  It was really funny to watch.  he was all legs kicking in the air!

    Aw, what a sweet hound.

My Dash rubs on everything, too. He also does this in water. Puts his face in and walks or runs, water flying in all directions!

I'm thinking about this rolling in the grass, wiping face in the grass thing...

Could it be a way a scenthound, maybe any dog, but especially a scenthound, would "clear his palate" that is, kind of go back to square one, scentwise? Also, it would make him less "visible" (scentwise) to prey.

As for other things they roll in... Some dogs/canines roll in the doody (yes, that's a technical term [sm=lol.gif]) of their prey to disguise their scent while hunting. Why modern dogs want to roll in the STINKIEST stuff available I have no idea, but I think it has roots in that.
