    Anyone hear about these vitamins???

There is a site that sells a vit. that looks good. Called Balance It. I was wondering if anyone knows about this product.  The amount you use depends on the weight of your dog. I had a visit with my vet today about home cooking, supplements etc. One of the vets fournd this site. You can get a free recipe, but I was wondering about these vits.  Has anyone tried them? Sounds pretty good. He had told me about Pro Tabs, but I thought they looked good.

What vitamins do you all use, those who homecook fresh food?

I have been learning homecooking and joined the yahoo group k9nutrition.  I did that site's survey along with other dog forum members and we all found that they suggested amounts more than was necessary.  Someone on the yahoo group had the same experience and didn't like that they tell you that your dog needs more and then try and sell you something.

If you homecook, then it will be mostly meat with just a small amount of grains.  I add in well cooked veggies or raw, pulverized veggies. I don't do grains due to allergies.  Most people on the nutirion site add in 5-10% of the daily diet with liver and kidney.  Maybe 4% liver and 3 or 4% kidney.  Most homecookers make a bit pot and ad the organ meat in that way.  Heart is not considered an organ meat.  Anyway, most vitamines come from this.

I find that most people on supplement with fish oil, some with probiotics, a few with Vit C (I don't - I think it's much better to get a ground up fresh veggie for the vit C rather than the supplement).  And most people add in a small amount of Vit E anywhere from 2 times a week or more.  (I lean on the conservative side of E - but some supplementation is necessary b/c the body uses a small amount of Vit E to convert the fish oil).

There's a lot more, but it's getting dark, and we must go for a quick walk!

Edited:  How in the world could I forget the calcium supplement!  That's the most important!!.  (search my name or jennie_cd in the last couple of days and a bunch of us had a couple different discussions about the calcium).  It is the biggie supplement.    Also, I had a post that Glenda was also in about nutritiondata.com (nutrition data). Read it as well! THANKS! Trudy can not have grains or chicken. I give her Fresh wild baked salmon, and I cook, sweet potato and assorted froz. veggies. and then mix them. My parrot loves this veggie mix too. It has EVERYTHING!

She can have beef, but since it is sat. fat, I limit that a bit.

I give her fresh pieces of fruit like apples, strawberries, kiwi, pear, etc. also. Some plain yogurt and the book I use and the vet said cottage cheese is also good for calcium. My book says you can sterilize egg shells in the oven and pulverize. Then use a pinch on the food. I think The other sources for nicer to eat though. Salmon is also a good source of calcium.

Right now, I am adding Nat. Bal. fish kibble to insure vits. I am just scared to stop the kibble.

Trudy SURE LOVES her food!!!! I cook a lot for her and my parrot! Parrots need fresh food all the time.
