Dog show classes

In fact, this dog already had a point toward its championship when you bought it. Although you purchased the dog from another breeder, it was born in the United States as a result of a breeding in the United States. Which of the following would be the best class to enter your dog in?   1. novice class 2. american-bred class 3. open class 4. winners class   i've already eliminated novice class from the list, this question is kinda tricky, please help me out here. • rwbeagles Posted : 4/18/2006 9:32:06 PM Well you cannot enter the Winners class..that class is made up of the winners from the other classes   If the dog is OVER 18 months old on the day of the show then Open is likely your best option. Am Bred isn't used often outside of specialties or people needing to spread their dogs out because they have multiple entries of the same breed.   If the dog is UNDER 18 months than the 12-18 mo class is another option.   Open is THE most competitive class usually...and Goldens are a brutal breed to show from what I hear...always tons of entries and handlers, and you need even mroe to make a major! Posted : 4/18/2006 9:46:47 PM Personally, I use American Bred for dogs that are too old for Puppy, but not quite polished enough for Open.  I think the judges treat Am Bred as a novice class IME. • lorib Posted : 4/19/2006 12:57:04 AM Is your dog intact (that is, not spayed or neutered)?  Many people don't realize that only intact animals are shown in conformation.  If you know this already, forgive me; you didn't mention it.
