Luper - 4 yo acd mix at first would not poop or pee in front of anyone. She would go wherever she could hide from us and if there was newspaper alll the better. I was packing some things and left left some newspaper on top of a stack of boxes only to come back in the room to find a pile of poop on top four boxes. She must have climbed up on the table and jumped onto the boxes! This was a problem until we got her trained to the efence. I had to tie her to a stake in the yard and hide behind the corner of the house. After she did her business I would pop out and give a treat.

She also goes BERSERK whenever we pass a KFC and she almost mugged a couple eating fried chicken on bench when we took her for a walk when we first got her. She was a stray with no history when we got her, maybe she hung out and was feed at a KFC. Fried chicken is the best treat ever for her.

She has turned into the best dog anyone could want , a faithful and adoring family pet.

    • Gold Top Dog
Pofi was no more than 5 weeks when someone dumped him on the river bank in a state park in northern MN.  He was with my friend who found him for 3 weeks and has been ours ever since.

    He:
    • Does not like water from hoses or sprinklers - likes bodies of water, but will not go in above the bottom of his chest and if your out further than that he will get to you and cling to you for dear life.
    • Is wild eyed, terrified, will bust down a door to get inside at the sound of firecrackers, fireworks or gunshot, but is completely unaffected by thunder.
    • Does not like people bundled up in heavy coats wearing hats or hoods - the start of winter is a big adjustment till desensitized, but we saw a teenager in an oversized coat and "phat" jeans and hat that set him off just today.
    • Really freaks on people who are really drunk - lots of warning barking and it seems like he can smell them from a distance or tell by the way they walk.

Conclusion - in late October of 2004 some big, mean, stinky, drunken, gun toting hunter in a parka and hat took him to the park and tried to toss him in the river and left him there to die??  Maybe because he was gun shy???

He also has abandonment issues, but not about leaving him in the house - when he sees me get my keys he goes into a down stay to receive his "Mommy will be back" treats.  But he did not like being left at day care even though he LOVES other dogs and most people and he was wildly anxious all day long each time watching the door for us to come get him.  He had to be put in a suite with a peanut butter kong the last time he was there when other parents started picking up their kids - he was basically shrieking almost non stop....had to come get him earlier than planned.

Mia - was an owner surrender and in a shelter and rescue only very briefly.
    • Wants to bark her fool head off at nearly every thing that walks by our yard when she's out there and you can't even get her attention - very territorial
    • Bossy toward Pofi and us in the house, but very uncertain and reticent most of the time at dog park
    • Would prefer we never leave - barks repeatedly when we leave the house
