pet fountain

If you have cats I think they are a must.  I bought the pet fountain about 9 months ago and for some reason the sound of the splashing entices the kitties to drink more then they normally would.
Being that cats are sooo damn picky anyway, the filter keeps it clean which is really important because a cat will not drink dirty water unless it is real thirsty
I have not had a single urinary infection (sometimes caused by low H20 consumption) since then

I have a drinkwell fountain (the one in first picture), and all my dogs and cat love it. I like the idea that they would always have fresh water available (constantly filtered), and it does encourage drinking.

I had to put the fountain away after using it for 1.5 year because one dog was hospitalized for bronchitis and I had to restrict his water intake.  He developed excessive drinking problem around that time.  He still drinks more than before he got sick, but not as much as he was sick (he literally would not stop drinking).  I believe his drinking problem was developed from his medical issues, and I'll put the fountain in use again since my other dog is prone to UTI.

We have a slightly different kind that has a 5 gallon bottle in the top but it runs through a filter.  The filters cost $5 to replace and we've done that twice in a year I think.  With 4 dogs, the Size is why we got it.  We were refilling 2 half-gallon water bowls every other day and it was annoying.  So now it's once every 5 days which is better.

It did take our dogs a couple days to get used to it.  The bubbles scared them!  lol...  but they have overcome that fear now.

Do you think that it is worth $40? Have you had any problems with it? Thanks.

I had the small Drinkwell fountain shown first for many years before it got to be kinda noisy and not work as well.  With our current brood of 2 dogs (one fairly large) and 3 cats we now use 2 of the larger Big Gulp Drinkwell fountains (one on each floor) and a Cat-It dome fountain that spills water over the dome for the cats (though they use the Big Gulps, too).  I think they are very worth the money - I did not find the smaller Drinkwell that hard to clean (it is a bit of a fussy process, but not that difficult), but the larger one is easier just because parts are bigger, too.

My only issue is that Mia does drink too much and we need to restrict her intake for a while, so we have emptied the reservoirs and are using just the bowl at the moment, but we will return to using them.

Love the toilet - that is just too funny!
