A Rescue Op for Kate (Benedict)

Last night we captured and brought here two Maremma littermate sisters who had been abandoned by the farmer they worked for previously.  Assuming they work with my flock and current dogs, I'll be keeping one, and one will be going to a friend once I've completely evaluated her, tamed her to handling by people, and taught her some basics like coming to her own name (previously these dogs had no name, being collectively referred to as The Girlz).

We've decided to name them Maia and Minerva - one named after the goddess of spring, the other after the goddess of wisdom and Getting in Everyone's Business.  Big Smile  Maia is beautiful and gentle and sweet and eager to please, and will be, I hope, a great dog for my friend who has never owned a livestock guardian before.  I'm hoping she'll be a great ambassador for the breed.

Min is rather homely and gangly.  She's underweight because she was too suspicious to take food freely from the people who fed them when the farmer left them behind.  She's bossy and has already informed my young male, Tully, that he is dirt beneath her feet.  He agrees.  Min has eyes that can bore holes in you.

I hope to have pictures of them later today.  Both of them are really tired after their change of residence and long trip, and all the new sights and sounds, and I'm giving them a chance to chill out.

Oh my....Becca, you have NO idea how close to my heart this is, especially after last weekend when I actually met maremmas for the first time.  Suffice it to say that I am now in absolutely no doubt about this breed being my future.  I need to send you an email anyway, will do that as soon as I get 5 minutes (in the middle of cooking dinner at the moment lol).
