    a book i own

i hope this s in the right place..

this was mentioned in the working dog forum i go to sometimes..... the bulldog enthusiasts were talking about good bulldog books and someone mentioned Dr Carl Semencics Gladiator Dogs. everyone sorta laughed at the joke.. then someone pointed out that people are buying these badly written books for wads of cash at a time.....

so here i am, after seeing those prices, eying this book that sits happily on my bookshelf next to my other dog/bulldog books, right in arms reach.... not because i treat it like my Bible, but because i love the photographs and use them for references all the time.

anyway i'm posting this because.... WTH??? why are people paying so much for THIS book? i bought it for $50 when i was in high school. it was my first breed specific book, it had lovely artistic photos, and the text was informative...at the time.. since reading it i've discovered a lot of it is bunk and opinions. still..... wouldnt that decrease the value? or is this like the misspelled player's name on the Baseball card?

and are there other dog books out there like this?

Holy crudmonkey, sell that darn thing already! Those prices are nutty. I think you're right, because it's now clearly dated and sort of eccentric it becomes a "collector's item."

We have the same issue with Raymond Turquet's (sp).. book
"The Saga of the Dogue de Bordeaux"...

It is out of print and very hard to find...
Tim & I have been looking for a good condition copy and cannot find one...
The last one we saw was way over our budget and had to be shipped from Europe...

I have a hard time paying for books at regular price, but to pay almost triple the original price is somehow silly...
I like to scour my local thrift stores for books...
(paperbacks $1.00 compared to cover price of $9.99)
