    Joint supplements

My oldest cat is 8 (we think) and I think he's starting to get arthritis. When he sits up or starts walk, I can hear his joints crack like mine do when I've been sitting to long. I know 8 really isn't that old but this poor cat has had years of neglect and abuse before BF adopted him 3 years ago.

I'm just wondering if there's anything I can add to his morning breakfast of wet food to keep him healthy and help him live a full life. I know BF is going to be devastated when Kameo finally dies but recently I've been worrying about his heath due to his past treatment. He is starting to slow down and is a little hesitant to jump up to his food dish.

And as soon as I find a crate that will hold him, he'll be getting a full physical to make sure everything is still fine.

I have been giving my 16 year old cat Zuke's Hip Action Treats, for about a month and I can defiantly tell a difference.  I've never heard her joints crack but she's gradually gotten more hesitant to jump and complains when you pick her up.  Now she doesn't hesitate at all to jump up to the food bowl and complains less when picked up.  She just seems to feel better over all.

She has become a very picky nibbler (recently diagnosed with IBD) but she has never once turned down one of these treats.  She gets 2 every day.  She will actually stand on her hind legs to get them from me, she hasn't done that for a treat in years.

I hope you find something that works.

Are those something you can get at a pet store? Or do you need to go through a vet?  Kameo isn't picky seeing as he's fat..Lol.

    Thanks!

If he's fat - getting the extra weight off of him will greatly help - just like a dog.

I've never given anything to my cats - but fish oil is supposed to help cushion the bones, we use it on dogs with HD.

He's not Fat fat but he's got a lot of muscle tone so I think that is weighing on his joints but I don't want to get rid of his muscles cuz he's a fighter (nothing I can do about that). He's also a bigger then average cat so that plays into his weight as well.

I get them at a small specialty pet food store.  zukes.com has a store locator so you can check your area and see who has them.  Of course getting rid of extra weight will also help.

Well like I said, his weight isn't from fat, it's muscle so I'm not sure how to tone that down as he's a very active cat but he's just slowing down. Thanks for the site! I'll look it up.

Looks like we where posting at the same time, I didn't see the part about him not being fat.  I have a big black cat that was getting panther comments on his last trip to the vet, he's just huge.  I hope the treats work for you I wish I'd found them sooner.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the store locater and seems no one carries them near me so I guess it's time to send my pet store on another hunt. I love doing that!

Are those the same ones they make for dogs, or do they have cat ones, too?  I've been giving our almost 18 year old cat Cosequin (for cats) for almost a month now.  She'd been a little stiff in her one shoulder on and off.  The Cosequin's been working pretty good.

Is that something you can get over the counter? Or do I need to go to the vet?

The Cosequin?  You can get it over the counter.  I've seen it in some of the catalogs I get.  I bought it at a local pet supply store.

They make them for cats too, I'm using the salmon flavor now.  The cat versions are a lot smaller.
