Oprah's Dog show

    Oprah's Dog show

    What a bunch of Malarkey.
A new training method? bull puckey! Everything that Tamara lady is doing and making a FORTUNE doing for celebrities has been around for years...What a scam!

Oprah must have had a hand in the publishing of her book or own a part of the publisher.

Or she might just like the trainer... [;)

Oprah tends to recommend things she likes like towels, sweaters, cars etc.  I don't think she owns part of most of the companies whos products she recommends.

As far as the trainer goes, like you said, there was nothing new.  Just things that might have been new to Oprah or some of the people in her viewing audience.  I think introducing positive training to people is generally a good idea even if it is recycled stuff.

That one hasn't aired here yet, but I have the DVR set!

I guess for the "average person" who doesn't know very much about GOOD dog care it was a good show.  But if folks like us I have to admit, it was a disappointment.   I was really hoping she'd rip into the lack of regulation in the dog food industry - she could have started a public riot if she did - phooey.

The show was mediocre in my opinion.  It was nice to see positive training being promoted, but it is definitely not new.

The list of food categories was good, but I was sorry to see that balancing calcium and phosphorus was not mentioned in the home cooked meal example.

I was really disappointed that there was no demand for a full explanation from the FDA concerning the food recall or any mention of the toxins getting into the human supply chain.

I didn't catch most of it because of storm warnings. But from what I saw I liked.  IMHO, that trainer is a lot better for the general public than Ceaser was/is (he was on the show last year).

Well, it was good that the trainer she had on uses common sense, gentle, training methods.  That was a good lesson for people that need advice.  But, there weren't any EUREKA moments for me there.

The part of the show that BURNED ME UP was the Largest dog on earth (great dane) and the Smallest dog on earth (a tiny chi).  Oprah was la-de-da and how wonderful and totally goofy over both of them.  All I was thinking about was how irresponsible it is to try to breed a dane to be as large as it can be and a chi to be as small as it can be.  These two dogs were poor representations of their breeds and are both most likely doomed to short lives with many medical and orthopedic problems.  Their breeders should be scolded.

The book recommended on the show has two wildly varying reviews - one "*" and one "*****".  It doesn't sound like something that I would recommend.

There is already an audio CD and an audio cassette, too.  The bad review says that the book is an advertisement for the CD.

Oprah did make sure she asked both of the breeders or owners if they were trying for the smallest or largest dog and they said no.

I like the show because it was positive reinforcement but Oprah did say break-through training it is not.
And she aggravated me twice, on potty training the leave the dog in his crate and after lying in his mess two or three times the dog will say EWWW and stop. NOT!
And I can't remember right now what the other was but I taped it so I will go back. Stop laughing, it's not easy being an old fart ya know!

I read somewhere that Oprah met the trainer on the set of Desperate Housewives and liked her so she started working with her.

I think that the show showed Oprah's and others love for dogs. I think it showed how people should act with love and think about the food. I think many people got good messages from it.

Overall, I thought it was a good show for John Q Public.  I didn't really get anything out of it.  I get a bit annoyed with people who say "I studied wolf/dog and got my training method from that" like they invented the wheel.  Everything the trainer did, I'd seen/done before and I'd never heard of her, so I didn't see/read the idea from her, but oh well.  Of course I did wonder what happened to Ceasar Milan as far as him being her trainer.  This one was quite different from CM from what I've seen.

Oprah did a show on dog training? Well my mom should be calling any minute to tell me how to train my dogs...sigh...
