Found a lost dog

    Found a lost dog

A dog walking in the middle of my busy street walked inside my house when I called him Baby. I wanted him to get off the street and he came to my house. I have posted flyers throughout the community, called people's homes, walked the dog around knocking on people's doors, etc. I decided to get a little help and did something I have never done and wasn't sure what i would get but i believe in covering all my bases. This dog is missing his family and is sad. He is like a 3 year old looking for his mom. So, I decided to call several animal communicators and each told me something totally different from each other. They just brought on more confusion than assistance. One even said that the dog had seen his owner getting shot and that that frightened him to run away. I am naive about animal communicators as I did not know what to expect of them. Are some for real or are they all a fraud? I've had the dog with me since March 3rd and I want to find a great family for him if his owners are not looking for him. He is a special guy. I know that much. He is good with kids and dogs but he cannot be around cats. I have a 2 yr old cat and a kitten. He got the kitten and I got him away from her just in time. I was hoping that the animal communicators would be able to give shed a little light in which direction would be best to look for his family but in return all i got was heartache. Does anyone have any feedback about their experience with animal communicators? I am mailing flyers to all facilities. Any other ideas how to find his family? He wants to go home. He really does. He really likes me somehow, but he rather go home. Tulum

Well, it's possible he could be quite a bit from home. I've heard stories of how dogs end up hundreds of miles away from home. You said you put flyers up, did you happen to take any to any of the shelters around your area and ask them to put them up, just in case the dogs owner goes there looking for him?  Also, you can post on www.craigslist.com in the pets section for your area saying you found a lost dog, but don't give out too much information. Make sure you put in there they will have to describe some characteristics of the dog that only you and the owner would know.

That's my Moon. Hope it helps some. Oh and I don't know anything about animal communicators but I personally think they are a crock of you know what.

    Agreed.

I would go to your local, and not so local, animal shelters and file a found report. Have them check their lost reports to see if anyone is missing him. They might not be. Some people don't care about their pets, and just dump them -it happens, and you need to prepare for what you are going to do with this dog if that does happen. E-mail flyers to those shelters with a picture - this always helps a TON. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, and that is so true when trying to get an animal back home. Check with shelters in your surrounding counties, as the dog could have wandered quite a ways from home. Check petfinder.com - they have a lost and found section. Check the papers daily - it usually takes a few days for ads to appear, depending on when they were placed.

Good luck to you and the pooch!

Have you had him scanned for a microchip?

Checking for Micro Chip was my first thought too.   I would hope if anyone found Rocky they would check that since that was the purpose for having him Micro chipped.

Third the tattoo/chip inspection. Also what breed is the dog? If he is say a hunting hound then your search could be different than if he is a small Lhasa or something.

Thank you everybody for your replies and concerns. I did check him for a microchip right away. I have emailed and mailed out flyers

to shelters and animal hospitals. I even called on the phone to people in my community and walked the dog around knocking on people's houses. My idea for calling animal communicators was so that I would narrow my search let's say to an area where I would be able to contact all animal hospitals within the area, etc. Without an area as a target, it is just too much to cover. I've never seen a dog so homesick and eager to go back home. I do realize that perhaps he was tossed in my area from somewhere far from the city. I am trying to find a good home for him and in the meantime have submitted an application to a no-kill shelter. He is a great boy. I don't what his breed is. I think he is a mix. He has the colors of black and little bit of tan on his paws. Looks a little like a rot and the body of a medium size dog. He seems to have some herder dog in him. He is not your every day kind of a dog. If it wasn't for the cats, I would love to keep him. I don't think he can be conditioned into liking cats, I think that is who he is. I know dogs that cannot be persuaded into liking cats. I just recently discovered that I love cats and can't see not having any around.
