Nothing I do seems right today.. *Little whine session*

BF is Disability and due to circumstances at the time, I was put on as a dependent. Basically that means any money I make will effect his file and if I make to much money, they'll kick him off. Now at the time we were only on Assistance, not Disability so Welfare put us in a Jobwave program to help find work. Since BF finally got approved for the D.B, we're not required to go to Jobwave but they offered to pay for schooling and training so we're still in it..

    Now for my whine session!

I went in for my meeting today and was offered a position making over 1300 a month in a part time job and I turned it down. My worker finally realized why I kept turning down these high paying jobs and decided to put me in a work experience program, were I work for free and get the training and experience I need.

I came home to tell BF this and he just flipped out! He kept saying how Jobwave was just trying to get him kicked off through me and I tried to explain that I would be working for FREE!! I just feel like I'm doing something wrong by trying my best to not get him kicked off again.  He made me feel like I had gone behind his back and was working full time making thousands a month! I'm not! If I was, Maze's ears would be treated and the animals would have their shots..

I'm trying my best! And I just don't know what to do..

    *End whine session*

Thank you for listening.. Er.. Reading..Lol.

How is a girlfriend able to be put down as a dependant? And can't you be taken off as such? No knowledge of such things, but I can't see how it benefits anyone when you have to turn down a larger salary than I would imagine he's bringing in while being on disability.

And shame on him for not appreciating the fact that you were offered such a position.

How is a girlfriend able to be put down as a dependant?.

In Canada after 1 year (I think it's one year, it used to be 6 months) you are considered Common law partners, and can be on things like this among many other things (they can claim you on their taxes, healthcare etc as a dependent) If you consent to it.

I'm sorry to hear you have to turn down good opportunities, I hope it all works out for you. Smile

See, that is what's wrong with the system.  Now, I have no idea how it works in Canada, but the whole idea of folks turning down decent jobs because of governmental help is in no way going to help society as a whole.

Sorry you're going through this, hope it all works out somehow.  Does this mean you will never be able to work for the rest of your life?  What if you get the free training and can get a job making more than his DB?

The final plan, or light at the end of the tunnel is once he's completed his training, BF wants to get off D.B and work on computers. EI: become a comp. tech and also produce video games. So in effect he wouldn't have to do heavy lifting and ruin his back even more.

His training will be a year long so I can't work in that year. And yes I agree that this system SUCKS! But he fought so hard to get on there so he can get the medical treatment.

We had a nice little talk earlier this evening so now he sees what made me so upset.

I was going to reply how I had a crappy thing happen at work yesterday but the end of your op made me realize that really, this was about your feelings about what your BF said. At least you worked that out and maybe he will appreciate the sacrifice you have made.

Tht's good that his DB will still allow him to be able to work comfortably at some jobs; best wishes in his and your training.  I'm glad you guys talked it out, that's the most important.
