Have you used...

    Have you used...

...some of the same supplies (collars, leashes, bowls, beds, etc) from your passed dog to your new dog?

I did. I use the same stainless steel bowls for Apollo that I did with my first Lab, Pepper (passed from cancer at 13yrs). One of my friends thought that was weird, she said "why didn't you just clean out everything after your first dog died? and start over fresh and new with Apollo?" I don't know why I kept some of her stuff (bowls, leash, collar, and I have her tags on my key chain). Maybe it was like letting her go...even though she was really gone already, and I wanted Apollo to "know" her.

I'm not cheap, lol, I swear!!!! Stick out tongue

Well Rory is my first dog outside of my parents home so I havnt kept any previous stuff, plus my Dad always has hunting dogs on the property so they claim everything, lol.

I will probably pass on Primo's stuff and other dogs stuff but NOT my Rory's.

She is my "once in a lifetime" dog......she is my angel and what is hers will never be another dogs becasue I'll never love another like her.

My Dad had a "once in a lifetime" dog too, his name was Bear and he never passed on his stuff either.

I get sentimental about the dog and memories, but not the 'stuff'.  If it's really important to the dog it goes "with" them (yes, I've sent beds, balls and such stuff on with them to be cremated!! No joke)

A stainless bowl is a stainless bowl is a. ..... stainless ... bowl.  No biggie.  Once in a while if it's cold I'll drag out somebuddy's old shirt and put it on somebuddy else just because it's practical and 'there'.  Toys generally are dog specific (and favorites go 'with';) but where Billy likes balls, Luna likes completely different types of toys and Foxy and Kee didn't/don't *do* toys.

I was just telling someone the other day Prissy (my heart dog fo many years ago) had a t-shirt I bought her at a roadside stand once (we were heading north and it got cold) and it said 'Inside This Shirt is One Terrific Kid".  She was a perfect child's size 2.  She lived another TEN years (she was nearly 21) and .... I buried her in it.  It was ALWAYS her favorite.  She's likely still wearing it lying in that Meadow just beyond Rainbow Bridge.

Misha's my first dog, but I can say that my aunt does not for personal items. My aunt still has Lucky's collar complete with tag hanging by the door, and Lucky was hit by a car several years ago. She also has Star's tags on one of her keychains, and Star came long before either Duchess or Lucky. They all have had the same dog house and the same bowls.

Some stuff, I pass on and some stuff is special. I have Teenie's favorite outfit, and I'll always keep it. She was too sick and bloated to put it on, when she went. She was wrapped in her favorite blankie, and she took it with her. I'll also keep her "bling" harness, which she LOVED, forever. Some of her other stuff has already been passed on. Crates, bowls, non personal items... get passed. Super personal, important stuff doesn't. Emma's pink crate won't ever belong to another dog, because it's HERS, and it's for DOG SHOWS, and it's special. Her regular wire crate, at home? I'll probably use it for the next puppy, LOL.

The dog I had before Max was a bandanna dog too, so Max inherited all of Bud's neat bandannas and then got a lot of new ones of his own.  He has quite the wardrobe now.

A lot of Mick's stuff has been passed down to Caleb, especially his bowls, flexis, most of his toys, and of course the crates and xpens.  Once he grew into it, Caleb also used Mick's harness until I bought him one of his own.  I still have Mick's leather leash, and plan in using it with Caleb when we start competing.  I can't use Mick's round, braided collar, tho, because Caleb is smaller than Mick (although I could probably get it made into a martingale).  Really, the only things of Mick's I've kept that Caleb is not getting is Mick's volleyball and one of his tug ropes- too much sentiment there.

I have used Bear, our first Rottie's, outside bowl for Shadow, bought Shadow a new inside bowl which Rocky now uses.   Shadow was very spoiled and had several toys, blankies etc.  Rocky is using Shadow's outside blankie but he got a new inside pillow.  There were so many puppy collars and toys that Shadow out grew so quickly so I am reusing them for Rocky but Rocky has gotten a few new ones of his own.  Actually one of Rocky's favorite toys is a stuffed toy that squeaks that was also one of Shadows favorite as a puppy  I have both Bear and Shadows last collar and tags hanging in the entry of the house but I see no problem letting Rocky use their leads and backpack.  When we lost Bear and Shadow several years apart, the first thing I did each time was clean their toys, balls, blankies and bowls in hopes that their would be another wonderful fur baby  to share our lives.  I just  know both our boys  would be happy to share their things.

All of April's toys were gotten rid of as I could not bear to look at them.  I kept her favorite one, it was as old as she was. and my DH had sewn up the belly on it.  I keep this on my bed with me.  I kept 3 of her coats that I loved also, could not bear to part with them, maybe someday Bonnie will wear them.  Other than that, except for her pictures, I kept nothing.  Too hard to bear.
