Inaccurate book?

I never said they DON'T run. And I never said they don't need exercise. The grey that lives next door to me walks probably about 6-7 miles a DAY - spread out inbetween 4-5 walks.

Anyone interested in a greyhound needs to do research on their own. Not all greys are sutible for apartment life - however - many are. They are track athetes, once retired - they want to relax.

All the people I know with greyhounds seem to think it's important for the health of the dogs to find a safe fenced cat- and squirrel- free place for the dogs to do sprints in once or twice a week.

That's certainly what my local greyhound rescue group said when I inquired.

Just thought I would add my two cents on dogs that are "traditionally" not safe for cats.

My dog is a mix of Siberian Husky and Lab but he is prredominately Sibe in temperment, metabolism, and some physiology, such as having bones that are less dense than a full lab. Anyway, the common wisdom is that Huskies see cats as prey animals. And Shadow has killed a few squirrels and mice, usually from playing to hard, as I don't find puncture marks or torn flesh. But he was, as a little puppy, raised around cats and a Jack Russell Terrier.

The pic in my sig is the reality of life here. So, it's about socialization and the dog's particular personality.

Yes - socailizing when they are young is key. However - a greyhounds only socialization with anything small and furry is to chase, be first and win. If you happen to get a greyhound as a pup (which is very, very rare - at least in the part of the states where I am), I think things would be a whole lot different than getting a track resuce - which make up the vast majority of greyhounds that are pets.

I never said that they did not like to run. Please read what I wrote. I said - most do well with long walks. I never advocated for them to become lazy out of shape couch masses. What I am saying is based on my expierence with track rescue - I work directly with a track vet, greyhound rescuers, and know a few kennel opperators. My expierence with greys is very much hands on.

Erica, I read what you wrote, several times~ "Actualy, greys don't really run after they are off the track." These are your words posted yesterday @ 7:31 PM. Since you have now denied saying it, twice, perhaps you can go back to your post I just cited.

I will not continue this senseless exchange. I merely had to respond since you continue to deny saying it.

That quote does not say that they don't like to run. Plain and simple. Don't put words in my mouth.

I encourage anyone adopting a grey to do their own research. It's obvious this thread is going no where. Feel free to PM me if anyone would like to continue this conversation.

Thats crazy, Ive never heard of an agressive greyhound. Im sure they are out there but they must be pretty rare or something.
