So, the story is that the lady that lived in the house was sent to an adult care facility. Her animals were left behind. The dogs chained up outside (remember it's been near zero degrees here for the last few weeks) with no food, water or shelter. The cats were left to fend for themselves. All of the animals are in terrible shape.
The neighbors, feeling sorry for them, has been feeding and watering the animals. Because of this, the AC says that they are barred from taking the animals. They say that the law says that as long as the animals are being cared for they can't do anything. So, the neighbors need to stop feeding/watering them in order to save them.
It's a big to-do around here right now. Everyone is in an uproar. There's a video showing what poor shape the animals are in.
With all of the bad press, the AC is now saying that they will rescue the dogs. However, when you call them they say - not until Monday. The news report says they will rescue them today.
I'm disgusted by the entire thing. Our aussie rescue group and our local dog group are trying to see what can be done with the dogs. Nothing is being mentioned about the cats though.
I called a friend of mine at a cat clinic to see if they could help...it's tempting to just go there and take the animals but now that there's so much press you probably couldn't get away with it.
