I think puppy licence has expired (Dogma)

    Huh?

Haven't figured out what to think of this yet ...

I let the dogs out in the backyard by themselves for a short amount of time while I was picking up the house. (They wanted out). About 5 minutes later I hear ay yi yi yi-ing and Eko is running back to the house. At first I didn't think too much of it, but he was acting very upset and I realized his ear is nicked. :(  It's a good size nick, too. In the past Sasha has grabbed an ear when he's been an utter pest, but never left any marks or broke the skin.

Shortly before they went out we were playing and he was excited and whatnot. He pesters her a lot to play, and 98% of the time she ignores him. But he's as tall or taller than her now, and 4 months old. My first instinct is to be upset that she broke the skin. That isn't ok with me. But gah, it is totally possible he was obnoxious as heck and didn't listen to her warnings. Sasha always warns before an air snap or a real snap. I still don't like that she broke the skin. It seems excessively harsh. Am I right or overeacting?

In many ways it doesn't matter, because I'm not going to let them be unsupervised for a while.

Neiko's had a nicked ear before from one of his buddies that he pestered too much. I didn't worry about it and they still get along just fine.

Dakota otoh, really ticked off a male dog and he left a puncture wound in her neck. Those 2 haven't gotten along again to this day. We have to keep them both apart when we see each other at the dog park. I still don't worry about it much though. Dogs will be dogs...

If you feel that Sasha was probably teaching Eko a lesson then leave it at that and don't worry about it much. Most likely Eko did learn a big lesson and won't be so pushy in the future.

He's already showing a lot more respect, for sure.

Sasha likes him. And while she can definitely be cranky, she's not one to go out of her way for a fight. She probably is simply tired of being jumped on all the time.

BUT MY POOR BABEEEE... He probably had it coming, but his ay yi yi's sure do get a mommy going.

Oh, those ay, ay ay ay's will curdle your blood & worry you @ the same time.  I wouldn't worry too much about Sasha & Eko.  He probably WAS being a pest & wasn't listening to her warnings.  Tell Eko to stop pestering Sasha & give BOTH of them skritches from me.

Morrison has a small notch in his ear from about that age when he was bothering Monroe and crossed some invisible line.  The yips and the blood really bothered me but Morrison learned his lesson.

Now he's just faster but they are still best buds.

They get nose kisses from me!!!

Maybe it wasn't Sasha... Could he have caught it on a fence or something? Just a thought.

He will be fine and probably has learned a very valuable lesson.  Think of him as an obnoxious teenage boy (probably middle school age).  Sasha just "put him in time out" and he has discovered that she WILL put him in his place.

FWIW, ear wounds bleed like crazy even if it's just a tiny nick.
