Have you had your microchip registered???

PLEASE register them! If they are ever lost, the shelter won't be able to return them to you since the animal isn't registered toyou. We deal with this at the selter regularly.

That  is what I was thinking I guess I will just go on and get it done. It is just kinda a scary thing too think something will be put in too them. But then again I guess it is worth it in the long wrong since  I would have that extra secrety  of knowing that maybe (IF) they did  get lost I might have a better chance finding them. I know everyone always hopes this will never happen even too the best dog owners!! But as we all  know  things that we do not plan in life happen all the time. Because I would just die with out my dogs I love them that much!!

I thought of this in the microchipping thread. Did you know that an unregistered microchip is completely, 100% useless?

Actually, Mick's was already registered to my vet.  If Mick were to have gotten lost, Avid would have contacted my vet.  But I sent the paperwork in as soon as I got home anyway.

mine are registered (came as part of the Friend Chip package at no additional cost). As a backup I have me and a good friend as the contacts. I also set up an account online and got to add pictures, vet, markings, etc.

The animal control (who sponsored the chip clinic) is also listed as a "mandatory/also contact". I asked about why this is and they said it is to ensure someone can get to the dog (they have 24/7 coverage) if needed.

It is good for life, but I can change address, etc when needed.

BTW- I paid for a metal tag from Avid as the plastic tag had become illegible after about a year. It is a high quality, deeply engraved tag. I think it cost @$10.00 for the tag. I still keep the old tag on his back up collar in the disaster kit. I also registered his chip on '24 petwatch' (will register any microchip for free, for life).

I did almost the same thing.  I ordered a plastic tag from Lucky Pets with all the info on it that was on the Avid chip.  :)

I believe Millie's chip is registered to the county SPCA, so in case she were picked up and scanned, they would be contacted, and then they would contact us. I registered Max's chip right when I got home after getting in implanted. His chip is from 24 Pet Watch, so I registered him on there, gave a description, and uploaded a picture of him. When I tried to do Millie, it said her number was already registered.

I have avid chips my gals are registered at least they have cashed my check, does anyone know do you receive anything back from them saying they are registered?

A while later (after I registered) I got an envelope with brochures about the Avid program, an order sheet for the metal tag and a "welcome" letter with all my dogs info (chip number, contacts etc) asking me to ensure eveything was correct.
I ended up calling because they spelled my name wrong (I have poor penmenship). She corrected it, and about a week later I got an updated/corrected letter. I kept it in his "dog folder". About a year later I was glad I was such a packrat because I wanted to get a new tag as it was getting tough to read. Aha - there was the flier for the metal tag..

I also got the same type of welcome letter from 24 petwatch which had a flier for their pet insurance.

Pays to be a packrat sometimes!

My boy is microchipped, here in Canada you do not need a liscence every year if your pet is chipped.

2Rotten......Avid chips are great but the company is AWFUL about sending the paperwork.  I get on them often about that and since I have so many chipped I occassionally ask for a printout.
Call them ASAP just for your piece of mind.

Mine are also registered to my vet.  If my dogs get lost and lose their tags, the chip will be traced to my vet, who will hold them until I can be contacted.

Thanks Tylers mom I am going to contact Avid, I have recieved nothing from them. You know my vet actually recomends removing the actual i.d. number from the tag the reasoning is your pet is stolen the theifs have all information to transfer to the dog to their name with different  vet. I still have the tag with Avid & phone no. so if needed who ever knows this dog is microchipped.

thank you 2rotten!! I had the tag on Gracie's collar but after reading that I'll remove it.

I registered Gracie the day she got it. They only had the HomeAgain (Schering-Plough I think) chip available.

My vet clinic lists themselves and I am the owner/contact, so if someone finds my dog, and can't find me, my vet gets the call.  My vet also now keeps photos of every client, so even if  I am far away, and forgot to take one with me, she would be able to email it to wherever it needed to go.
