Question for those in California...

    Question for those in California...

Does anyone know any good places to vacation with dogs?  I want to take a week this summer and go somewhere, but I obviously want to bring the dog.  Camping or hotel, doesn't matter.  Northern or Southern California doesn't matter either.  Just somewhere we can all have fun.  Northern Cali seems to have more places, but I don't know which places are the good places.  Most of our favorite camping areas don't allow dogs on trails, so they are out.  I'd like to be outdoors and do lots of exploring.  Oregon might be okay too if someone knows somewhere good up there.

    Thanks!!!!!

I think there's a book (I forget the name of it, but somebody on the forum probably know what it is) about traveling with your dog and it lists all the dog friendly places and hotels in the state.  Also, if you get as far south as San Diego, Ocean Beach has turned the entire north end of the beach into an off leash dog park called "Dog Beach."

I have the Dog Lovers Guide to California.  I was just hoping for some personal recommendations.  Smile

I live in Monterey County which is made up primarily of Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove and Monterey. We are extremely dog friendly, we have 3 off leash beaches and plenty of fine dining where you can take your dogs....some even with a doggy menu!

I actually manage a hotel that has cottages with kitchens, fireplaces, and backyards that allow dogs. If you ever shoot over this way (central cali on the coast) drop me a private email and I'll give you my hotels website so you can take a peak.

Oops forgot to mention Big Sur (duh), lol. Tons of hiking, camping and swimming with the dogs!

Well considering you're in Ventura county, this might not interest you, or maybe you've been there.. But I went camping at Lake Piru a few months ago with a group of people and three dogs, and it was a lot of fun. Really pretty. I didn't do tons of exploring though, cause it rained the first day we were there (and we were only there two days), so maybe the trails don't allow dogs? I thought they did though. They seem pretty darn dog-friendly.

That is truly my favorite area of California and I agree it's very dog friendly. My brother has a house in Carmel and when we go there and stop at the Carmel Bakery, everyone comes in for coffee, etc. and brings their dog along. I love it!
