Doggie ice cream shops?

    Doggie ice cream shops?

Does anyone have any of these where they live, or ever heard of one. Basically an ice cream shop for both humans and dogs where they can come in with their dogs and all can enjoy some ice cream. Just wondering ...

Um... the DQ has an outdoor sitting area, but I wouldn't let my dogs come inside.  The floors are always sticky and i think my dogs would stand there licking them.  EW.  But I doubt that's what you mean.  Are we talking a shop that also serves special icecream for dogs?

Yes sorry, I should've been more specific. I'm thinking of an ice cream shop that serves both ice cream for people and doggie ice cream for dogs! That way everyone can come in and enjoy some.

    We have one

One side of the shop is strictly for humans - dogs aren't allowed. The other side is for dogs and humans. It's very well decorated and everything. Great store :)

    Jewlieee,

does it get alot of business that you know?  I'm doing a bit of research Smile

Down here, Bruster's ice cream has a special "doggie ice cream" that, I think, your dog gets for free if you bring them with you. Bruster's isn't a sit-in type of place though, if that's more what you're looking for.

I talked to the owner about that once while in there with my dogs. He said that the dog shop does not bring in a lot of business. He said that the human shop is what keeps him going, especially in the summer. One of the local dog groups that I'm in just had a doggy get together there this weekend so that brought him a bunch of money, I'm sure. Otherwise, no. It's not a money maker.

Edited to add: I think that location is key. If you could locate the shop in a high pedestrian area that would be a lot better (like on  a main street near a university or something). This shop is in a strip mall that doesn't get a lot of traffic (hair salon, karate place, etc. in there)

We've got a few around town, for dogs and people - with large outdoor seating areas. Basically, the "dog" ice cream is just plain vanilla with a doggy bone on top. Dogs love it. It's pretty fun. I've never taken Casey though, just a few shelter dogs.

Oh one more thing - it's not regular ice cream. It's something without dairy - not sure what exactly...

Yeah, our place here is just a human ice cream shoppe with a doggie menu--soft serve vanilla with doggie cookies on top--on the menu it's called "the doggie dish".  It's a lot of fun for us on a summer night to be able to all go for a ride as a family (pack, LOL!) and get some ice cream.  Willow thinks it's BIG fun!

we don't have one but I do think it would be a hit in Raleigh - people here love to take their dog's places and there are lots of dog events that are super well attended. I was amazed that when I took Bugs into the city there wasn't anywhere he could go in.

There was a place near where we used to live that would put vanilla soft serve in a dish with little doggie biscuits, and it was really cheap, maybe $1 -- I would almost order it for me since it was cheaper than the "human" one except for the biscuits! LOL

    Ok thanks everyone!!

DH has an awesome idea for one, and we weren't sure if there were any located anywhere or not. I know it'd be a hit here in the spring/summer and early fall but the winter not so sure...

I know some ice cream shops are open seasonally. I worked at one all through high school and they operate on a shorter schedule during the off season.

We have a Bones and Cones around here.  DH and I checked it out a couple weeks ago.  The dogs couldn't go inside, but the had a window on the side of the building that we could take the dogs up to and order.  The dogs got a couple pieces of dog cookie, but I think the only dog ice cream was a pack of freeze dried that you could buy.  They had a bunch of other dog things there though...bully sticks and treats and stuff.  There might have been more but I didn't get to look around much b/c I left DH outside w/ the dogs and it was cold so I was trying to hurry up.  The owner said they are trying to move to a new location and are hoping to have a place where the dogs CAN come inside.
