Drinks a Lot, but Eats Little

I have an appointment to take the cats in to the vet, but I was wondering if these symptoms rang any bells with anyone. Both cats have been reluctant to eat (eventually they eat some and will eat a little tuna) but overall, their appetite has waned dramatically... Both of them. But their water is disappearing faster than usual.

    Sound like anything?  Thanks.

Diabetes or kidney problems are the first things that come to mind.

We had a cat that died of FIP and she basically stopped eating, but she stopped eating and drinking.  At the end, I was syringe feeding her pedialyte and watered down canned food.  She had to be put down but I don't think they always do.  She had other infections (UTI, URI that she had when we adopted her) that masked the FIP, so by the time we knew for sure, it was too late, her belly was already very distended and she'd basically given up.

liver and kidney problems are usually associated with those syptoms - but not always.

The best thing to do is get the food into them. Whatever and whenever they will eat. Syringe feed them if you have to. As long as you keep food in them, you can overcome whatever is wrong. Had a cat in liver failure once, force fed her through a stomach tube - and she got better, and was adopted into a new home

Thanks for your responses. Smile  Turns out the problem was the catfood! It was a bad bag. They were probably drinking more water to compensate for lack of food. We tried another food and they ate it up! So, we got another bag of the same food and they're doing fine now!
