    Little dog won't leave (Bullymom)

Well, I let the dogs out to do their business about an hour ago.  I heard them bark at the door so I open the door to be greeted by my dogs and a little Boston Terrier.  I have never seen this dog before.  He is very well cared for and he has a collar but NO I.D. tag.  He ran right in my house like he owned it.  I think there is a female around here in heat.  The little guy was trying to ride Brownie and she has been fixed!  When he didn't get anywhere with Brownie, he tried Rocky!  I put him back outside in the hopes that he would go back home but he hasn't left.  He keeps running from the front door to the back door.  I have a doctor's appointment in an hour so I don't really have time to walk around the neighborhood, looking for his home.  If he is still here when I return, I'll try to find his home.  What else can I do?  I am scared that my dogs will hurt the little guy so I am keeping mine inside.  Do you think he will return home on his own?

You could take him to the vet and see if they can scan for a microchip.

Keep him safe and get him scanned for a microchip asap. Go knock on doors carrying him...put up posters in your neighborhood...I did all those things when I found a JRT, and once a border collie. Found both owners, too, though both took time because both dogs (at different times, I didn't have them at the same time) had been left with irresponsible dog sitters while the owners were on vacation. The owners had to come home before they got found.

I wouldn't do that..... you never know what kind of people will say "oh yea! That's my dog".... this guy sounds friendly enough - he'll take anyone as his owner!

I would put up flyers, call your local shelters and file a report, have them check to see if anyone has reported him missing. Get him scanned for a chip and hope for the best! Putting a vague add in the paper helps too - leave room for questions though (just say Found - Boston Terrier, Male adult.) something like that, so they have to really identify the dog.

Whenever I find myself in a situation like this I think "what if this was my dog"?

If I were you I'd lock him in ym yard or even a bathroom where he cant damage much until you get back from your appt. Then I'd post some flyers and make them name a distiinctive amrk or something about him. I know its a pain but if that were your baby you'd be worried sick and like you said....he seems like he is well taken care of.

I agree with Auroralove.  That's what I would hope someone would do if they found one of my girls. Good luck!

Put him in a crate and take him with you.

sorry i just think its funny... this little dog going door to door looking for love and .. doing home inspections lol!

    ahem... sorry...

yes i would also keep him somewhere safe until i had time to search for his home. its likely he will go back on his own but you cant always bank on that. before we moved here we had a neighbour with an intact mini schnauzer... this dog disappeared for almost a month. they posted rewards and all kinds of tricks to find him. they discovered him accidentally... he was shacked up (literally) with a little old man who didnt go out much and his schipperke bitch.. also intact.. the old man didnt realise he had someone elses dog and he had it in his mind to keep this old rogue that showed up looking for love.

Well, he finally left!  I haven't seen him anymore.  I cannot believe that he came right into my house, with my big dogs!

We live out in the boonies.  About once a year, a strange dog will show up at the house.  I always figure someone dumped it.  Last year, it was a beautiful, intact, male Husky.  Year before that, a very overweight black lab.  I usually wait a day or two to see if the dog leaves on their own, but they never do.  At that point, I will kennel the dog and call animal control.

The Husky I did take to animal control to have scanned for a microchip.  None.  They asked me if I could keep the dog for a few days until they had space for him.  I agreed to do that but they called to pick him up the very next day.

He left on his own.  I figured he went back to where he came from.  I wanted to help the little guy but I had a doctor's appointment.  He was cute but I know that he belonged to someone.  Madison wanted to keep him!!  She called him a "Mexican bulldog"!!
