    gas problem!!

    Hello All,

I have a silly and rather embarassing question for you all.  Our 3 month old puppy bear seems to have some REALLY bad gas.  I mean he will be in his crate and then all of a sudden here comes the rotten egg smellCrying.  We feed him good quality puppy food from the dog food center here in town.  If I'm not mistaken it's called Blackwood brand puppy food for large breeds.  He seemed to just start this only a few weeks ago.  What can be causing such bad gas? and is there anything that I can do to either stop it or make it alittle easier to breath in.  I know gas is a natural part of the body but it's getting to the point of constant.  Thanks for any advice.

It's likely the food -- some dogs can't handle lamb, some can't handle venison -- it's likely whatever meat source is in the food.  That would be typical.

A friend of mine told me that dogs that have to bend down farther to reach their food and water tend to swollow more air which causes gas...and lots of it.

Maybe those little pet food holders that are higher off the floor might work?

i know this because my dog has horrible horrible gas, as does her boyfriend (the dog i have been babysitting for almost a week now).

just thought i would throw that in here.

I agree it sounds like the food you are giving him is disagreeing with his body. I'd switch slowly over to another brand.

Thank you for your replies.  He been on the food for some time now and didn't have this problem until recently.  Could it take awhile for this type of problem to show if it were the food? Thanks again all.

Food allergies can surface at any time. Have you used different treats? All of mine get horrible gas with freeze dried liver treats. [:'(] I bet it's his regular food though. Try something else for a while, be sure to wean over slowly though (over about ten days).
