Does anyone recommend some great books on dogs. Understanding their behavior and what not. I've heard The Other End of The Leash is good.

Yes, the Other End of the Leash is great, as is Dr. McConnell's other book For the Love of a Dog. I also really like The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson.

I second The Culture Clash. Great book!

I haven't read these, but my dog's rescue used to recommend Don't Shoot the Dog by Carol Lea Benjamin and Leader of the Pack (but I cannot remember that author).

I would also recommend - for other purposes - The Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook.

g33 and I are on the same wavelength -- Giffen & Carlson's "Dog Owners Veterinary Handbook" is one of my favorites. I like ANYTHING by Carole Lea Benjamin "Second Hand Dog" should go with every placement from a shelter. "Mother Knows Best" is great for puppies. and the one she mentioned is great too.

Dr. Stanley Coren's "How to Speak Dog" is for me, about the best.

Isn't Don't Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor, or are there two Don't Shoot the Dog-s?

Don't Shoot the Dog is a great book, but more about behavior modification than the whys and wherefors of why dogs do what they do. It isn't really even about dogs specifically, despite the title.

Maybe it's Carol Lea Benjamin who wrote Leader of the Pack and it's Don't Shoot the Dog I don't remember the author of.

I've also read several articles by Patricia McConnell and she is spot-on with Jean Donaldson's type of philosophy. Good stuff.

Ya I have this and have used more times then I can count. It has so much useful info including basic info. Also has lots of pics.

Has anyone read "The Dogs Who Found Me"? Its a really good book, especially if you like bullie breeds.
